Hótel Eyvindará in Egilsstadir

It's alover a good stay. Very kind and helpful hosts. Breakfast is very good. Rooms are big, well headed, comfortable and sparkling clean. Also in winter time, in January, they are here, with all you need. Hot tube is open. They are for Islands kindness. We love this land and come back.

Generally I don't really write reviews but this location just showed us what Iceland is all about. We got trapped here due to a snow storm and roads got closed. Omar and Margaret (owners of the hotel) from the start where very friendly and welcoming but during this difficult day they exceeded our expectations. They where patient and helpful to answer all our questions and help us reassure. Thanks to them we where able to make the most of this stormy day. The location is ideal for hiking and other activities has the hot terms of Vök. While we where waiting for the weather to get better, we made a snowman. Omar who saw us at work directly thought about the details and brought us carrots from the store. This little gesture showed us how much he loves this place and what they're building here. Cabin was an aged but comfortable. Bathroom small but private. Hot water was came out extremely hot and had slight sulfur smell, but pretty unique experience to be using thermally heated water for the first time. The staff was helpful but had stretched thin with large tour groups. The dinner was very good and reasonably priced, as was the hotel.

Very welcoming staff. Hot tub wonderful. Breakfast was great and bountiful. Great night of northern lights.

I was 3 times at this hotel this summer and every time there was problem at check in. I wrote email upfront to hotel that rooms need to be prepared for 2 people not for one, they replied that everything will be ready on arrival. When we arrived, receptionist said that he didn't reply to my email but somebody else, so no room was prepared for 2 people and they had to do it on arrival, which my clients wasn't really happy about it. On my previous stay breakfast start at 7:00 so this time i went for breakfast but it was closed and they started serving breakfast at 7:30 and nobody informed me about it on check in. Lady at breakfast barely speak English so when i asked why breakfast start at 7:30 she only told me NO INFO. We were quite in hurry as there was bridge closure on way so we had 20 minutes for breakfast. I'm not really satisfied with communication from hotel staff, but beside that hotel have perfect location, nice rooms, but without heating so if you go to hot pot you will take your wet swimsuit with you home as there is no place to dry it.

We stayed here for one night, and asked for an upgrade to a private cottage, which we did get from the lovely and friendly reception staff. This guesthouse is in an amazing location, tucked away in a little forest right outside of town. Our cottage was very cozy — a bit small, especially in the bathroom, but most places in Iceland are this way. The heater whistled quite loudly at first, but worked a treat. All in all everything was slightly dated, but still felt nice and we really enjoyed staying here.

The cabin we originally booked was too hot in May, so luckily they changed our room!

The room was sunny and clean. Although small, it was well-equipped.

The only downside was the soundproofing, which could be improved.

But for a B&B, the environment was great. Although it's a bit far from the city center, parking and viewing the northern lights were both very convenient!

We stayed at Hótel Eyvindará as part of our Ring Road trip and had a memorable experience. We drove in from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, and while the first half of the drive was smooth, the last stretch was quite the adventure — snowy mountains, gravel roads, and rough terrain. It was a brutal ride, but the snow-covered landscape was stunning and made it all worthwhile.

The hotel is located just outside Egilsstaðir in a peaceful, forested area. When we arrived, everything was blanketed in snow, which made the surroundings look absolutely magical. It truly felt like a hidden winter escape.

The staff were kind and helpful, and check-in was quick. Our room was clean, warm, and cozy — perfect after a long travel day.

Breakfast was included in the room rate, and honestly, it was better than the paid breakfast we had at the Ion Adventure Hotel. At Ion, we were charged extra just for a cappuccino — here, cappuccino and other drinks were complimentary, and the overall breakfast spread (bread, fruit, yogurt, cereal, etc.) was more satisfying.

The hotel also has its own restaurant, which is open until 9 PM — a great convenience after a long day of driving. And if you want other options, it’s only about a 7-minute drive from the N1 gas station and restaurant in Egilsstaðir.

Overall, Hótel Eyvindará is a peaceful, scenic, and welcoming stop in East Iceland — absolutely worth it, especially if you’re doing the Ring Road.

The landlady was a lovely and welcoming lady. She asked me where I was going the next day and how to get there, fearing a road closure or something would delay my trip (but I ended up breaking the traffic ban and going to the Professor camera position on Prometheus. The road conditions were very dangerous, so I advise everyone not to go there during a traffic ban, as there would be no signal and no rescue). The hot springs were accessible to the house, so you could soak in the yard or wash in the house (there was a slight sulfur smell).
