Snæfell - Hotel by Aldan in Seydisfjordur

🌍
Iceland, Seydisfjordur, Vostochnaya Islandiya, Islandiya
● Center: 140 m

The communal kitchen with an honesty bar and board games was praised for adding value and a social aspect to the stay. Many guests highlighted the stunning views from rooms, including sightings of the northern lights. Guests found the rooms clean and comfortable, with modern linens and well-maintained interiors despite the historic exterior. The hotel's central location near restaurants, the harbor, and walking trails was appreciated for convenience. Self-service check-in was considered straightforward and efficient by most travelers. Several reviews mentioned that rooms are small, sometimes too tight for large luggage or extended stays. The reception is not staffed continuously; check-in requires calling ahead and can be confusing without clear instructions. Thin walls and poor soundproofing led to noise disturbances from neighboring guests and street traffic. Some guests noted the lack of an elevator to certain rooms, making access difficult with heavy luggage. Limited kitchen equipment and absence of microwave or induction stove in the communal kitchen were noted as drawbacks.

We stayed at this hotel during our trip around Iceland and found it to be a comfortable and convenient stop while travelling the island.

The self-service check-in was straightforward, although the booking information mentioned a latest check-in time of 9pm. We rushed to arrive before then, only to find there was no reception and entry was simple regardless - so it would have been helpful if that was made clearer in advance.

The shared kitchen area was a pleasant surprise, with an honesty bar that offered good value and plenty of stock. It made it easy to grab a drink or snack without needing to head back out. There were also a few board games available, which was a nice touch for winding down in the evening.

The projector in the common area provided options like Apple Screen Share, but the slower Wi-Fi made it a bit limited and sometimes frustrating to use with lagging. Still, it was a nice feature to have.

Overall, it was a good place to stay for a night on a road trip around Iceland, with thoughtful communal spaces and an easy check-in process.

We stayed at the hotel for one night. The room was comfy and the staff very helpful, but the location and view were what truly stood out. We even saw northern lights just outside the room, quite an incredible experience!

Small but clean rooms. Private bathroom. Nice full kitchen and tables in basement to cook or store your food. Easy check in. Central location to walk around town.

Rooms are small, but the community kitchen was nice and it was located near local restaurants. The views around this area of the mountains and waterfalls is stunning!!

This property is located in a quiet place. We drove into a parking lot labelled with the name only to discover that registration was half a block back. Other guests helped direct us where to go. The hotel looked liked it needed a coat of paint but inside it was a spacious set of rooms. Good amenities (tea, coffee, small refrigerator, separate sitting room, lots of outlets to charge electronics, many hooks to hang damp things, good closet space). The bathroom was small and dated but well appointed. Clean and comfortable.

Three restaurants are available - one tilted towards Icelandic food (so we were told) - one for burgers and pub food, and another towards pizza and Italian. We enjoyed a lovely pub dinner.

This is a port town - tourist ships dock. There is one grocery facility filled with souvenirs and food items.

The room is sufficient for laying your head down but is much too tiny without enough room to open luggage. It is clean and has a cute communal kitchen but should be advertised as a rooming house or hostel in my opinion.

The hotel is located in a cute lake town. The building used to be a post office that turned into hotel. Based on the pictures provided by *******, I chose the least expensive room as I couldn't see much difference between the rooms. That was a mistake. We couldn't fit our suitcase in the room. We felt as if we were sleeping in a closet. The room was very clean and basically was sufficient enough for one night. We had a great dinner across the street in a restaurant that belongs to the same owner.

The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Everything was perfectly adequate and the hotel was in a great spot near most of what the town has to offer. I would stay here again :)

Right next to the water. The town is quiet but very beautiful. Their buildings may look old on the outside but they’re definitely clean and well-maintained inside. Their restaurant serves very good food.

Convenient but teeny tiny room. Check in was confusing. They should have told you to go to the restaurant. Again with the late check ins. What’s up with that. Should be no later than 3pm.

It was alright. Pricey, as is everything in Iceland. Nice drinks, cozy atmosphere. If you're up for alright food at a premium price, this might be your place.

Nice Location.

The food is okay, a bit below average, but the view is great! Note that there are very limited lake view seats. I was really excited to see this place as it is filmed in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
