Deteriorated. Excessively expensive.
Outside looks like an abandoned house, the window in the main room is broken, (with adhesive strips preventing the broken glass to fall apart), there is rust everywhere outside and also inside, including on the radiators.
There is only one bathroom for the 8 people in 4 rooms, there are no other sink, nor toilets except in this bathroom.
The room was cold when we arrived.
There is no phonic insulation: we could hear the cars outside and the conversation of the people talking in the room next to ours.
Payment by cash is mandatory, adding the fees to the price of the room, already totally out of proportion.
Guests have to prepare their own breakfast; the coffee machine was out of order; there was no butter.
On the door a sign presents the Booking rating 8, from 2017, while the current Booking rating is less than 6.
It is a shame, it is not acceptable compared to Iceland standards.

This was awful. I received a message on the morning of our expected stay to be told that they didn’t have a card reader. Could we pay by bank transfer or cash. It’s difficult to transfer from GBP to ISK with my bank, so I had to change cash. 38000 ISK (>£230). Reason given was to save the owner bank charges, so I’ll pay them instead. That would be fine if it was a Dream Guesthouse, but it wasn’t, it was awful. 😢 4 rooms sharing 1 bathroom. That’s 8 people waiting to take a shower in the morning. Not much fun if you want to use the loo in the morning. The place is rundown and the only thing that was pleasant was the passable view that we spied through the broken glass window when we woke up. The breakfast included’ is a ‘help yourself from the fridge’ affair, which concluded a wholly unacceptable stay. We will not be returning.

Sketchy payment method is being requested by the host. They demand payment in cash or over PayPal after the free cancellation period ends but their listing states that cash is NOT accepted. We questioned them over email but they ghosted us and refused to reply. Ended up having some random neighbor demand payment from us at 10:30 at night

The rooms are crazy expensive for what it is. This is a terrible deal for a hostel, please consider going elsewhere. We later found a hotel room for the same price

The place is full of spiders (killed two in the bathroom) and not clean at all

Horrible outside of the house and damaged steps, porch and parking lots. Overcharge the price on the checking date with cash only using the flexible rate of euros to American dollars regardless of an original booking price. Tricky strategy of ripping off guests is hidden. Very disappointed experience, incomparable with others that charge booking price with credit cards.

This house is obviously tricking guests! Be careful for all new customers. I booked through Priceline with a price $286 in a statement. But it did not charge my credit card when I booked, which is odd because I booked all other seven houses or hotels and were charged at the same time. When I arrived, the owner insisted me to pay a price $310 with cash ONLY, not $286. I said I have the price statement/record with $286 and showed him. He said the today's EU currency is up and you must pay the extra; otherwise, you cancel it and do not stay. (I am thinking if today's currency is down, he will take original price, not going down). I suddenly understood why he never took credit cards. What is rule for his "professional management" of tricking customers on price? I think you all paid cash, right? Although its location is ok, the building outlook and stairway, deck, parking area are totally like demolished and horrible.

Like a student dorm... if the students had given up

We paid €265 for one night - for that price, you'd expect at least a clean room and a functioning bathroom. Instead, we got stained sheets, a shower that hadn't seen proper cleaning in a while, and a single toilet shared between four rooms - which, by the way, isn't even separate from the shower. So good luck if you need to use the bathroom while someone else is in there washing off the disappointment.

Breakfast? That was basically "help yourself to whatever's left in the fridge." Not quite the cozy Icelandic guesthouse experience we imagined - more like crashing at a random flatshare.
The infamous broken window mentioned in older reviews? Still broken. At this point, it feels like part of the décor. The outside of the building looks run-down, and the inside doesn't do much to improve the first impression.

Sleeping? Also a challenge. The walls are so thin, you can hear every whisper, snore, and suitcase zip from the neighboring rooms. It's like being part of a shared experience - just without signing up for it.

The real highlight? A man randomly walked into the apartment after we arrived and casually asked us to pay - in cash, of course. No invoice, no receipt, just vibes. We asked for a receipt by email, which he promised to send. Unsurprisingly, it never arrived.

Save your money. Unless you're into overpriced chaos with a side of mystery guest appearances and zero privacy, look elsewhere.

Disappointing experience overall.

Unfortunately, our stay was far below expectations. The apartment was quite dirty, with noticeable grime and even a clump of hair left in the shower — not what you’d expect from a guest-ready place.

Check-in was a mess. The host was absent and had sent someone else to handle our arrival, but that person had none of the necessary information. It felt completely unorganized.

We were also forced to pay directly via the host’s IBAN instead of through the booking platform, including the full amount with commission. This removed any protection from the platform and felt very unprofessional — we were told our reservation would be canceled otherwise.

The listing promised breakfast included, but all we found were a few eggs and a jar of Nutella left in the kitchen. Definitely not the on-site, prepared breakfast we were led to expect.

Facilities were lacking: the microwave didn’t work, and using a hairdryer would trip the circuit breakers. Several windows were broken, letting in cold air, and in the bedrooms there were only tiny windows with no proper ventilation.

Worse still, other guests arrived at 2 a.m. — well beyond the indicated check-in time of 11 p.m. — and no one was there to receive them. We had locked the front door (which opens directly to the outside) for safety, and were woken up by the noise and confusion. It seems the host has no real management or control over the property.

It’s a shame, because the beds were actually very comfortable — but sadly, that’s about the only positive thing we can say.

Right in the middle of Vik y Myrdal, in front of meeting point of several Tours. King size beds in each room, shared bathroom, good breakfast, warm and confortable living room to rest after you walked black beaches that are only some 300 meters away. 600 meters from supermarket. Host super friendly and kind, with a Phone Available at all time. The type of place you need while you visit the region.

Looks like an abandoned building, shabby exterior and broken windows- surely a safety issue. 4 rooms - but only a shared WC which we were not prepared for. Also the absent owner demands payment in cash - we wondered why ? Paper thin walls between rooms. Overall less of a dream - more of a nightmare.
