Phi Hotel Canalgrande in Modena

The staff were all so kind and friendly, but our first room had an issue with the smoke alarm, which blinked a light intermittently all night. The staff were very kind and upgraded our room, but unfortunately, the carpet was very dirty and reeked of mildew. Otherwise, the rooms were exceptionally clean, the beds very comfortable, the mini bar stocked with plenty of water (and coca cola/snacks), and the breakfast was phenomenal. Overall, we would recommend this hotel, but would suggest a bit of renovations in the rooms that still have carpeting. Also, the common areas could use a sprucing-up of the walls, because they have visible dirt. We realize that it’s an historic and incredibly beautiful building, but it wouldn’t take much to make it feel more appealing. Lastly, the restaurant wasn’t open while we were there, and it would have been nice to have known that prior to our stay. Kudos to the staff. All were very kind, especially the young man at the front desk with the glasses, and the valets.

I stay here every year when I come to Modena.

The lobby staff and the lobby guards are all very enthusiastic. In typical Italian style, the lobby is beautifully decorated with a garden, and there are free drinks and bread sandwiches in the afternoon. The room is relatively large, but the single bed I booked is only 1.2 meters, which is not very accustomed to. The breakfast is quite rich, and I recommend trying the local black vinegar, which I personally like very much.

The hotel is very, very tired. The pillows on the sofas in the hall have been crushed for a long time, the rooms are in dire need of updating. The room is very hot and smells unpleasantly of sewage. It is difficult to regulate the temperature of the water in the shower, its pressure is very weak. The breakfasts are meager. At the entrance to the hotel there are seven steep steps - it is difficult to go up or down them with suitcases. But, thanks to the staff, they helped with the suitcases and called a taxi. The staff is generally very friendly and the location of the hotel is quite convenient. But if the stay was for several nights, I would choose another hotel

Really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The staff is friendly and the architecture is great. Very authentic Italian. You feel as if entering another era, the place is old fashioned in the best way possible. They have a parking and they will take care of your car for you. The breakfast is delicious and plentiful, the best one I had during this trip.

The room is very beautiful like an ancient palace. I like it very much. The key is that it is very beautiful. Although the room is a bit old, the supplies used are very environmentally friendly, and the toothbrush is made of bamboo.

It is a very well-located hotel, right in the "heart" of Modena. It's in the ZTL zone, not to worry, the staff were very vigilant & assisted with the ZTL coupon which was valid for the stay.
The hotel is a bit "old", so don't expect much, however, the rooms are nicely furnished. Mattresses are firm to my liking and there is enough toiletries. Breakfast was sumptuous! A delicious spread & of high quality.
Note as the hotel is a bit old, don't expect top grade elevators - they are narrow, and the rooms a bit "hollow". Opens up to the balcony with excellent "minor" view of the basilica. However, sound travels and you can hear the next door neighbour if they speak loudly or slam the door.
Parking, however, is a nightmare, as expected of this very narrow town. No fault of the hotel itself. You can find parking nearby, may have to walk 5-6 mins. The excellent English speaking Reception/Check In Staff will assist with that & all my questions were answered.

Service: The service is super warm and friendly. They will help you park your car and pick up your luggage.


Facilities: Overall, it is relatively old, and the elevator is very small.
Environment: The room is very quiet, and the garden is very big when having breakfast in the morning! very beautiful!
