Hotel Speranza in Lido di Jesolo

We had an unpleasant experience regarding communication with the hotel. We booked a room for 2 adults through Booking. In the hotel’s policy, it was stated that children up to 18 years old stay for free. I sent them an email saying we had booked a room and that we would be 2 adults and a 3-year-old child. We didn’t need an extra bed or anything additional for the child. They replied that children up to 10 years old stay for free and that there would be no extra charge.

Two days before our arrival, I informed them again and they seemed surprised that we were three people. They said a €30/day fee would be applied, as if the additional person hadn’t been announced. I reminded them that we had emailed them in February and were told something completely different. They then said it was a communication error and that the €30/day was actually for the child’s bedding and amenities.

I told them this was not acceptable, as they had previously said there would be no extra charge, and that I would open a ticket with Booking. When we arrived at the hotel, everything went smoothly during check-in, but on the day we checked out, they called after us saying we had to pay €210 — the €30/day charge for the child.

I explained once again that we had informed them and that their email had confirmed otherwise. Their final answer was… “Yes, it’s fine after all.”
I find it unbelievable that until the last moment they tried to charge us a fee without a valid reason — just to see whether we would accept it or not.

Also, two days before arriving, I asked about sunbeds and umbrellas, and they told me it would be €10/day. But once we got there, reception told us it was actually €28/day — and we would only get sunbeds located further back, from the middle of the beach towards the promenade. So, far from the water.

I do not recommend this hotel because they are dishonest and unwilling to take responsibility for their own communication. They try to manipulate information and surprise you with unexpected charges. Be very cautious and make sure everything is in writing — even then, they might try to change things later.
