APA Hotel Toyama Ekimae in Toyama

I stayed at APA Hotel Toyama-Ekimae for one night on November 14, 2025, and at APA Hotel Ueno Ekimae (Tokyo) for two nights on November 17–18, 2025. I stayed together with my wife during these trips. Although these are two different APA Hotel properties in different cities (Toyama and Ueno, Tokyo), I unfortunately experienced the same serious issue in both locations.
The hotels look modern from the outside, and the rooms appear renovated with a clean and minimalist design. However, the air quality inside the rooms was very poor. There was a noticeable amount of dust in many areas, including corners and edges, and even small movements such as walking or moving luggage caused dust to become airborne. This made the room uncomfortable to stay in.
I do not have a dust allergy, yet I still experienced irritation in my nose due to the dusty environment. My wife, who is allergic to dust, experienced continuous sneezing, which caused her eyes to water constantly and eventually become swollen during our stay. This made the experience very unpleasant and affected our ability to rest properly.
In my opinion, the carpet flooring seems to trap a large amount of dust and may not be cleaned thoroughly enough. Despite the modern appearance, cleanliness — especially air quality — requires serious improvement.

Not too far from the toyama station. Theres a convenient 711 near by though the light for the cross walk takes quite a bit of time. You can walk over the overpass it you want. I came during a weekend holiday it seems and somehow booking.com claimed to book a standard room but I got a smoking room. The staff didnt really have any sympathy other than sucks to suck. Sleeping in these rooms is pretty miserable for a non smoker and id imagine anyone with asthma would just be restless. Apparently, this couldn't have been mentioned or confirmed with me when I had arrived around 1pm. It was only after 9pm that they mentioned this.

As for the room. Its the usual apa with perhaps a larger than usual bathroom. There is a public spa area to relax after taking in toyama.

asked for non smoker room and large bed for 2, couldnt get any. when inside the room, it was terribly hot. air conditioner can only be controlled by staff and they couldnt because it was cold day, they told me to open window. ended up having my worst night ever in japan by the impossibility of sleeping with a train station as a neighbor and trains passing each 15 minutes.
