Reviews
Living up to its name, it offers an unreal, almost otherworldly experience.
We visited on our honeymoon, and they surprised us with a cake and a lovely message prepared on the bed.
The property is very large, so buggies are necessary, but the gentleman in charge of our room was exceptional. Whenever we contacted him, he arrived within five minutes and always checked to make sure we were enjoying our stay.
The chef for the main restaurant deserves an extra shoutout for his exceptional mannerisms and service. He’d come to us at breakfast and always ask us if we needed anything that’s not a part of their usual buffet, and we did take him up on his offer and he didn’t disappoint. We were totally taken away by the lovely surprise the next morning with a spread just for us at our table, which was all just to make us feel happy and at home, no extra charge.
We will certainly be going back and this time split our stay into two to visit Soneva Fushi as well!

The food was delicious, the atmosphere comforting, and the staff incredibly kind.
A special thank you to Hollo for noticing the little details that completed the experience and made it truly perfect.
⭐ Rating: 5/5 – An absolute must-do experience!
This was the most magical evening during our entire stay at Soneva Jani! The "Sunset Dolphin Cruise" is the epitome of Maldivian luxury and natural wonder.
The sunset itself was breathtaking—the sky was ablaze with shades of gold and orange as the sun slowly dipped into the ocean. But the true spectacle was the pods of dolphins (literally dozens!) that joined our cruise!
These magnificent creatures were jumping and playing right next to the boat, perfectly framed by the glow of the setting sun. It was such a moving and intimate wildlife encounter—truly awe-inspiring.
The Soneva Jani service, as always, was flawless. The elegant boat, the delicious canapés, the champagne, and especially the passion and knowledge of the crew made us feel so special.
If you have the chance, you absolutely must book this excursion with Soneva Jani. It is pure joy and a memory we will cherish forever. Thank you for creating such a perfect moment!

That said, the property itself feels tired and overdue for a proper refresh. The villa layout is beautiful, but several of the lights didn’t work and the controls were confusing. Some fittings had mould, and the outside decking was so weathered that it left our feet dirty every time we stepped outside.
Maintenance overall seems to have slipped. A few fixtures around the villa had simply been disconnected rather than repaired, and you can spot areas where quick fixes have replaced proper upkeep. Even the feature lighting in the main restaurant wasn’t fully functional, which takes away from the atmosphere.
We also found the “barefoot companion” butler service to be misleading. The marketing suggests you’ll have a private butler, but in reality, they manage several villas — which meant we often had to wait, including half an hour just for a buggy.
Another surprise was the shared seaplane transfer. For a stay that can easily cost over $200,000 during peak season, you’d expect a dedicated transfer service, but travel plans are arranged around the most economical shared routes.
It’s still a stunning location with wonderful staff, but the resort feels like it’s living off its reputation rather than maintaining the standard it once had. With proper maintenance and more attention to guest experience, it could truly shine again.
