Guests appreciated the friendly and helpful staff, describing them as "very very friendly." The hotel’s private beach and amazing views received multiple positive mentions. The hotel offers a free shuttle to Praslin Jetty and a pleasant evening tea service with assorted cakes and muffins. Visitors enjoyed the natural surroundings including sightings of giant tortoises and flying foxes. Snorkeling in the lagoon was described as "absolutely fantastic." Several reviews highlight the hotel’s current abandonment and deteriorated infrastructure, with one calling it an "empty shell with crumbling and decaying infrastructure." Rooms were described as very small and sometimes difficult to secure from wildlife intrusion. Some guests noted limited snorkeling gear availability and the need to pay for equipment, unlike nearby hotels. The pool area needs cleaning and towels are not provided, which some guests found inconvenient. Access is challenging, requiring either a boat or a difficult hike through jungle paths with spiders and snakes, making it unsuitable for those with heavy luggage or mobility issues.

Description

New Emerald Cove Hotel is a unique 4-star property located on a secluded cape at the eastern end of Praslin Island, accessible only by boat or a walking trail through dense vegetation. The hotel consists of 7 chalets offering 42 rooms with various views including garden, sea, and water. It provides a private sandy beach just 50 meters away where sunbeds and canopies are free to use. The hotel is known for its diving opportunities with a large coral reef right in front, and it organizes boat trips to neighboring islands featuring beach barbecues. On-site amenities include a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, library, souvenir shop, and facilities like car rental and currency exchange. Despite the picturesque setting and friendly staff, some recent reviews note the hotel's current state of abandonment and infrastructure decay, though others recall it fondly as a cozy place surrounded by nature and wildlife like turtles and giant tortoises.

Location

New Emerald Cove Hotel is situated in Anse La Farine, Baie Sainte Anne, Seychelles. The hotel’s beach is just 80 meters from the property, providing immediate beach access. It lies about 10 kilometers from Praslin Island Airport (PRI), making transfers relatively short but requiring a boat ride or a jungle hike due to no road access. The hotel’s isolated location contributes to its quiet atmosphere and private feel, with no direct road connectivity. Nearby attractions include beach volleyball, non-motorized and motorized water sports, scuba diving lessons, massages, and table tennis, all accessible from the hotel grounds.

Tips

  • Bring light luggage or a backpack due to difficult access involving jungle trails or boat rides.

Visited the abandoned hotel as part of a hike to Anse La Farine from Anse La Blague. Fantastic walk and beach. Unsettling views of the deserted hotel and a testimony to the sometimes fleeting nature of tourism. Looked like a lovely place in its day, but now just an empty shell with crumbling and decaying infrastructure. The abandoned hotel is to the right of the beach, so it is possible to enjoy the beach and ignore the hotel.

I only discovered today that this property has been closed for some time. What a shame, and what memories. It was one of the stops on our honeymoon in 2009, and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel is accessible only by boat or a walking trail through the vegetation, and that alone gives you an idea of the setting. The beach is available in a truly picturesque cove. The rooms were very cozy bungalows, and the flora and fauna were spectacular, including the turtles that roamed peacefully around the property. We stayed in other, even more luxurious, hotels during our honeymoon, but New Emerald Cove is certainly the one that remains in our hearts. It's heartbreaking to know it has been abandoned.

I spent a fantastic week at this resort in 2013, my honeymoon. A wonderful place, surrounded by nature, with giant tortoises that let you pet them and flying foxes that fluttered in the evening. I saw that since 2018 it has been in a state of total abandonment... my heart sank to see everything destroyed... I hope someone takes it over and brings it back to its former splendor❤️

Amazing property and location. Very very friendly staff. In short an amazing experience.
Only factors which resulted in one less star were:
1. Even guests staying had to pay for snorkeling gear where as in Ladigue one of the hotels let us use it's gear even when we were not staying there.
2. Rooms were very small.

Positives:
1. Friendly Staff
2. Amazing view
3. Private Beach
4. Free shuttle service to Praslin Jetty from Resort
5. Evening Tea (Iced Tea along with hot tea and coffee with assorted cakes and muffins)

Cherry on Top: As we bot are vegetarians, the hotel management arranged for us a vegetarian buffet at much cheaper price compared to the price of their usual buffet!

The hotel is in a superb location. There being no road connectivity, the beach is very secluded. Although the hotel would benefit by touch of more professionalism, the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Went there without a booking. Let me tell you, it's not a trip for the faint of heart. Coming from Anse La Blague you have to find the hidden entrance to the jungle, hop over rocks and face a lot of big spiders. Don't bring a suitcase, there's no guy to help you carry and it's a 45 minute hike one way. The path is only marked once in the middle, you will need a GPS!

The buildings are old and seem to have been raided, we couldn't find out, no personell to greet us welcome with a fruity cocktail. Pool definitely needs cleaning and towels are not included. Beach is beautiful, no one there but us. You have a nice reef with some shark, rental of snorkeling utilities was out stock although we didn't see anybody else there. Turtles have been subject to theft and are all gone against the saying of other reviews. Food is free and available at several locations although its choice is limited to coconut which you have to peel yourself. Lots of debris from the buildings help to crack it open, make sure to have your tetanus shot.

Place seems to become one with nature so 3 out of 5: would come again, but just to spend the day.

For detail please check my pictures. Have a lovely day...

Arrived by local fisherman's boat (the only option for access to the resort, unless you dare a long jungle walk with spiders and snakes). Nice beach, the pier roof and ceiling was a bit low, so if you are more than 20 inches tall you may have an issue.
The reception area needs some landscaping, as it was difficult to get inside. The restaurant area was kind of empty, however spaceous, with a nice breeze inside. The pool area was great, with a nice beach side location. Need some cleaning though.
The rooms have a great jungle view, but beware of the wildlife entering, as the doors and windows was kind of difficult to close...
No wifi, so bring along your own router with a data sim. Also, beware of spiderwebs as strong as fishinglines scattered around in head height.

Well worth a visit. The snorkeling in the laguna was absolutely fantastic!

We spent here couple of weeks around xmass 2015 and it was a paradise found - let us know when you reopen, we'll come right away! And please don't rebuild it into some posh blah blah 6star resort. Keep the great spirit of the NEC!
Share your experiences, help others make the right choice!
Think about what you would like to know if you were looking for a review about a place to relax. Please describe in detail what you liked and what you didn't. What would you advise to other guests and to the hotel owner. The more fully you tell about the hotel, the easier it will be for other people to make a choice and they will be very grateful to you!
