Location is great.

Service... shite.
Why make us wait so long just to pay? Don't you want our money? I would recommend to use QR code technology to place orders and pay. Staff are overworked and overwhelmed.

I recently visited Militärkantine in St. Gallen for brunch with a group of friends. The food was fine, but the experience was completely ruined at the end. When it was time to pay, we asked to split the bill individually. The server gladly accepted, but things took a sharp turn when he brought the payment terminal. Without asking or giving us a chance to speak, he added his own tip of up to 5 CHF to our individual totals.
Even worse, when one of my friends explicitly stated the tip amount she wanted to leave, he typed in double that amount! Since we were paying separately and didn't want to cause a scene inside, we only realized the extent of this scam after we stepped outside and compared notes. I have no problem tipping for good service, but a server secretly helping themselves to our money means they deserve absolutely nothing. Management needs to review their staff immediately before this predatory behavior ruins their reputation further.

The hotel is historic and previously was military officers housing. It sits near a beautiful park and with an easy walkable incline. Highly recommend this hotel when staying in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Beautiful iconic building set in a green area of St. Gallen and walking distance from the center. Yes next to a road but it did not bother us: we enjoyed the amazing genuine historic rooms, friendly staff, amazing terrace and had a fantastic stay here: and good value for money: next visit I will definitely stay here again!!

This hotel as character , it as an old feel to it , rooms are big with wooden floors , good shower , and it might not appeal to everyone but I like it and I loved how breakfast was served and it had a nice European cafe style feel . It’s a good 10 minute walk from station easy to find and would recommend this hotel.

The beautiful historical hotel is a ten minutes walk from the station. The big green park outside is a sportsground but also has many benches. The hotel/restaurant terrace is lined with magnificent old chestnut trees. Friendly welcome, fast check-in and check-out. Our room on 3rd floor was big and spacious with few selected furniture and a water caraffe with glasses which can be filled with drinkable tap water. The only digital device in the room is an ipad. Pure sustainable. Taking the staircase down to the restaurant instead of the lift, we were surprised by an intriguing art exhibition. If you‘re into culture, sustainability and social responsibility, you will feel at home at this place.

Spent 6 nights here with my wife and kids. Great location 5 minutes walk from St Gallen Hauptbahnhof.
Overall good stay. Excellent breakfast. Very clean rooms.
They have a play area for the kids outside, a box of books and toys for the kids inside, and generally a welcoming atmosphere for families.
I’m not sure why, but the toilet paper is like sandpaper. North Americans probably want to bring their own. They could benefit from providing a softer brand in a high end hotel like this.
We will come back on our next trip to St Gallen.

Staying for business purposes.
Rooms certainly had an appeal towards following an antique style of decor. It looked good but not functional.
Unfortunately the staff doesn’t seem to be well prepared to handle guests that speak English, it still worked out at the end, though.
It’s impossible to truly sleep in if the hotel is decently occupied as around 7 to 8AM you’ll hear a symphony of squeaking floors from above, around and below. Perhaps possible if you’re a heavy sleeper.
On and all it was a unique experience, as long as that’s what you’re looking for then you’re good to go.

We stayed in a family room for 5 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are uncluttered and pristine, the beds comfy. There is no tv, no tea/coffee and no desk, which some people may miss, but the room and bathroom are perfect and rates very reasonable for Switzerland. Breakfast was good - the staff were very friendly and catered well for one of our kids who is dairy intolerant. We had afternoon tea and dinner during our stay and both also very good. The hotel is in a really nice park which has a playground for the kids, and the hotel itself has table tennis and other outside games for the family to enjoy. Location is great - just a 10 min easy walk from the main train station and city centre. We will definitely stay again.
