Soro Hotel in Dushanbe

I've no idea why this place gets such excellent reviews.

The building is old, and you hear every creak of the stairs and floorboards and every door opening and closing. There's regularly a loud vibrating noise when something elsewhere in the building operates. No idea what it is, but it woke me several times.

The bedding is old and the sheet is too small for the bed, so you spend the night wrestling the sheet which wraps itself around you.

There's no welcome bottle of water in the room for your arrival, and the one cup provided for making tea was old and chipped.

Breakfast is basic but OK.

The staff have no interest in guests whatsoever. They spend their time hidden behind the desk, playing on their mobile phones.

The wifi is strong enough to work on a mobile phone but too weak for a laptop and often too weak to make the TV work.

There was a power cut for several hours. Previous reviews mention this. Much of the rest of the area had power.

I liked the Smart TV. When it worked.

I'm genuinely confused why this hotel gets such good reviews. Our experience there was supremely average. The shower was a dribble, our bedding smelled mouldy as if it hadn't been dried properly, the service was non existent, they provided no soaps or hotel amenities like shampoo, breakfast was very average with no fresh fruits or healthy items (only a plate of cucumbers), the location was way outside the city centre.

For 50US a night, it was extremely disappointing considering you can get a hotel far better located for half the price.

Edit: As feedback regarding the laundry service: the hotel offers a "laundry service" which we were happy to pay for and requested the service. Instead, they shoved half our washing in a machine, turned it on and left it there for the whole day while we explored the city. We got back at 5pm excepting to see washing hanging out, and it wasn't. We then realised it was soggy in the machine and the other half hadn't been washed.
