Ailay Resort in Koh Phayam

The beach is gorgeous. The air conditioning worked well. The huts are badly built and very basic. This is fine if the prices charged reflect the quality. The girls cleaning everyday were great 👍. However, the bathroom had cut up plastic shower curtains stapled to the wall that served as curtains. The shower was just a drible of water. Sheets were stained and torn. Bathmat was basically a cut up towel. The “curtains” (blackout material) were torn and dirty. These conditions emphasis just how overpriced Ailay is.
Everything is extra, breakfast, pick up from the pier even a glass of ice will cost you 5 baht - 2 is 10 baht and a bucket is 20 baht. I’m surprised we weren’t charged for the toilet paper 🤣.
The manager will write aggressive comments to everyone that has a negative or constructive remark of Ailay, read for yourself. Quite extraordinary as a quality resort will try to be polite to previous guests experiences. I wonder if she realises that new guests take note of these things. Wish we had and booked somewhere else. Lesson learned 👍. Be aware of what you are paying for.

Bottom line is that this little resort is no longer meeting the minimum standards you would expect for the prices they charge. The location is brilliant for those who enjoy the attraction of a magnificent, quiet island beach. However, the resort itself has been neglected, messy and is ran down. Our bungalow was not more than a primitive, badly maintained shack. That by itself is no issue for those who don’t mind simple basics, but the issue is that the prices are excessively expensive for the comfort you get. It’s a pity, because with some basic improvements, the place has potential.
