We stayed at The Sunset Beach Resort Koh Kho Khao for 4 nights and had a very pleasant experience. The breakfast was good, and the atmosphere was peaceful and calm - perfect for a relaxing getaway. There is also a nearby resort with a naturist beach for those who may be interested.

This was our first time in Thailand. We loved it. The main thing for us was relaxing by the ocean, so of the inexpensive hotels offered to us, we chose the one closest to the water. The rooms aren't very big, but they were cozy. We were with a child. Three of us slept in a huge double bed. The mattresses are good :) the room is cleaned every day. The staff is simply lovely. The breakfasts are fantastic. The food at the hotel is delicious. BEWARE! The portions are very large. On the first day, we ordered two dishes per person. It was such a shame to leave food 😅 Then we ate two dishes for two adults and one child :) But it depends on your appetite. One downside: if you don't ride a motorbike, then be prepared to spend a lot of money on a tuk-tuk. Traveling to Khao Lak is very expensive. First, a tuk-tuk taxi is 300 baht to the pier, then a boat is 20 baht. Then a taxi to Khao Lak there and back is 1200 - 1400 baht. There he waits for you for about five hours and takes you back. And again, the boat costs 20 baht and a tuk-tuk to the hotel is 300 baht. The hotel rents bikes. On our last day, we decided to take a bike, a mini tuk-tuk type. And we reached a gorgeous beach at the end of the island. The food there was even better (or maybe we got tired of ours). You can still drive around to see other hotels. But be careful, right next to you on the right is a nudist hotel. We never saw anyone from there and didn’t go to the hotel. But the guide should warn you. In our hotel, there were seemingly many occupied rooms, but there were few people. Not a crush. Sometimes it even feels like you are relaxing alone. Lots of Americans, Englishmen, and Germans relax there. In the evenings, we sat by the ocean, chatting in rocking chairs or on large pillows. Unobtrusive music. Total relaxation. Lizards and frogs run around the hotel grounds. Lots of birds. A very sociable parrot comes flying in. There are a lot of crabs and hermit crabs. Sometimes we saw small fish in the ocean. Food on the island is more expensive than on the mainland, fruit is more expensive. But we already knew all this from reviews, so we were prepared. We'd been to Khao Lak once. We went on a guided tour. We went to Bond Island, a sea gypsy village, and to wash the elephants. We also fed the monkeys at the temple. Washing the elephants is quite an experience. You have to wade into the cold water with the elephants. The elephants defecate right there. Just feeding the elephants or petting them is fine. They'll show you the sea gypsies from boats. And then you'll go up there to eat. But of course, you won't go into the village itself. Although it's incredibly interesting... Bond Island is gorgeous. Very beautiful. The poor monkeys overeat there. But overall, we really enjoyed the tour. 30,000 rubles for three. But we had a really great guide from Phan San. And a local Thai guide. They're so smart. It was the best excursion. And the money was well spent.

For those seeking peace and quiet. Only the ocean, endless deserted beaches, and the untouched nature of Thailand. 1. Price. As usual, I started with the budget. My friend and I flew together, but we booked the tours separately. Our vacation was from February 5 to February 16, 2025. Flight: Azur charter from Perm (in the Urals), 9 hours. We booked deluxe rooms, 1 room per person. It came out to 153 rubles (the exchange rate was about 100 rubles per dollar). 2. Accommodation. The voucher stated accommodation at The Sunset Beach. We were moved to the neighboring hotel, Sea Sun Beach, with free use of the Sun Set facilities. That's why I lowered my rating. You should have warned me! Well, what can I say, at first, it was tense, because after studying the hotel description in detail, wherever possible, I realized that the neighboring establishment was originally built for the Chinese. There is practically no description of it anywhere. I tried to take detailed photos of Sea Sun Beach and add them here, since they put you in additional buildings (like Anex) when you purchase a tour. Ultimately, we didn't regret staying here at all. Because of the unique location of the Sea Sun buildings, they're constantly exposed to winds, sometimes from the jungle (located just behind the hotel grounds), sometimes from the sea. Tall palm trees grow between the buildings. Therefore, the area is 50% shaded, which creates a comfortable atmosphere even during the peak heat; we never felt stuffy or humid. At midday, we could comfortably sit on the balcony. See photo. However, on the main property, the main building blocks the wind, while the lawn and pool are completely exposed to the sun, making everything very hot. And if you take an afternoon stroll to the reception area near the main pool – brrr! Very stuffy and oppressive. Overall, we found our advantages in staying at the neighboring hotel. The occupancy rate at both hotels on our dates was, by the feel of it, 70-80%. A nuance: my friend had a birthday on the day of arrival, zero reaction. The same goes for newlyweds, and the guys wrote in advance. Yes, and it wasn't really necessary, but keep in mind. This is the concept. Perhaps only for Russians. My friend's colleague flew after us on her advice, two weeks later, and she was already checked into the main building. And no one was checking into our buildings. The hotel was almost empty. But everything worked the same. 3. Rooms. We had adjoining rooms on the first floor. We were very pleased. The rooms are spacious. A large bed (pull together from 2). For one person, it's easy to get lost. For a 3-star hotel, it's okay. Modest. Ascetic, but everything you need is there. A shower, not a bath, is a bit unusual. The floor floods, it's slippery. Be careful. You can get used to it. They provide both foot and face towels. You have to ask for them. I had two sets for my body and two sets for my feet, but none for my face. My friend, on the other hand, didn't have any for my feet. We asked for some, and they brought them right away. There's a freezer compartment in the refrigerator. The ice pack froze solid (perfect for a Martini). There's no kettle, just a thermos. Bring a fogger and spray. There are mosquitoes. Next to the hotel in the jungle is a small swamp with herons (and mosquitoes). Umbrellas are available in the room.

Perfect location for a relaxing stay and brilliant team of people providing fantastic and considered service.
However the condition of the rooms from repair point of view is bed, broken tiles, rotten wood fittings, and even plastic plates for service lets it down otherwise a great escape!

Great resort, plan your motorbike hire
Family of 5 staying in hotel rooms for 5n. Experienced Thailand travellers. Highly recommend this resort for big spacious rooms, cheap food at their restaurant. Need a motorbike though. Or be happy to pay 300 baht each way for 5km into local mini mart and pier. Beach is incredible. Pool super clean. A lot of Russian foreigners loading up (7plates plus) on breakfast buffet, this was the only let down to the holiday was the type of rude travellers. But the place and staff were amazing. Would definitely come again or to Paradis Villas which is 2 resorts closer to town is amazing for atmosphere and big Villa space.
We did love the wild dogs who visited us on the beach

The rooms were huge and comfortable. Bed excellent, cleaning spotless. The staff extremely service minded and nice. Beach was great too. Food good!

The area is very quiet and there is nothing to do though . Which was perfect for us because we only wanted to enjoy the beach.
But if you want a variation of restaurants, shopping this place is not for you.

I'm COMING BACK! What a lovely resort - especially room A1 near the beach! Discover the island and The Pirate Bar (off site) for more fun and adventure!

The hotel is located on Kekao Island, 110km from Phuket, a 2-hour drive. The car ferry time to the island is 8:30, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:30, and the boat ferry time is 20 minutes.
The first impression when arriving at the hotel is that it is remote and old. The room is very large, but the towels are old. The bedding is much better than the towels. The bathroom is huge and the condition is acceptable. There are many elderly people in Western Europe, and they seem to live here all the time, so after staying there for a day, I felt that it was really nice here.
The breakfast is not rich, but there are plenty of Thai food, fruits, drinks, and Western breakfast. It is no problem to eat well.
The beach is nice with small waves, perfect for swimming in the sea. Only hotel guests play on the beach, which is basically exclusive and very pleasant.
