As is mentioned in many reviews of The Stanle, the construction is a huge turn off! And absolutely no mention of it when you're booking your room. In addition, when I booked my room, I did not realize that I was booking it in the Aspire building. I thought that the Stanley hotel was one big hotel. I did not realize that there were different newer buildings. In the end, though, I am very happy that we are in the other building as what is being done at the original hotel is really offputting. The staff, however, were very nice and accommodating. Besides all of the construction, they have tours going on an hourly basis that are open to anyone who passes by, for a cost of $25+, of course and no discount for hotel guests. Those tourists who have not spent several hundred per night are all over the main lobby, dirtying up the carpet, wandering around the property with screaming kids, going up and down the stairwells, and elevator if it's running, just taking up space that should be reserved for guests!! Especially guests who are paying dearly for what they thought would be an old, elegant hotel experience. It is definitely not an elegant hotel anymore. It tries, a little, but is obviously too interested in making money off of tours rather than providing an exceptional experience for guests. I had envisioned myself sitting in that grand lobby reading a book with some tea. Impossible and wouldn't be pleasant if it was possible. Our room in the Aspire was nice, and the lobby, spa and gym facilities and the outdoor pool are very attractive and peaceful. But, again, some things just don't make sense. For instance, the lovely fireplace they have in the lobby is shut down at 8 PM when the desk agent goes home. I have been looking forward all day, to just sitting by that fireplace with a nice drink and reading my book. Seems like a normal expectation for a higher end hotel in the Colorado mountains. The pool area is nice, as is the steam room and gym. There are plenty of towels, tea and coffee and nice amenities. They need little tables out by the lounge chairs on the pool deck for people to set their drinks and things on instead of the ground. The beds, linens and pillows were great. There is no mini fridge in the room, no additional amenities in bathroom like Q tips, makeup remover wipes, etc... normal amenities offered in hotels of this price range and expected caliber. There is no full length mirror in the bedroom or in the bathroom and the mirror in the bathroom is so dimly lit it is impossible for a woman to see to put makeup on and no other mirror in the bedroom. They don't make up your room or refresh towels unless you specifically request it. I understand not changing out towels for ecological reasons, but when you are paying these kind of prices for a hotel room, someone should come in and make up your bed every day and tidy up and take the trash out. We're just one night in to our stay so we shall see how the rest goes. It has been p

We enjoyed our stay at the Stanley, but I wanted to warn other travelers that it is a massive construction site right now. If I had known, I might have still stayed there, but I would have requested a different room. Right now, the back side of the main building it a dirt pit. Construction starts at about 7:30 a.m. and wraps up at 5 p.m. Because the building has no air conditioning, our room got quite hot. Normally we would open the windows, but the dust from the construction site would come into the room. We would open the windows in the evening to cool it off, which works out fine if you're not in your room during the day. (Pro tip: Sit on the front porch instead!) Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay. We did two of the guided tours, the ghost tour and the Shining tour. They're both fun.

I stayed at the aspire specifically for the A/C. It was not working in my room. I informed the front desk and they offered to have someone look at it the next day (after I checked out) and to send up a fan. I asked if I could switch rooms as the hotel was empty. They said no. The front desk as the hotel is not present in the mornings or evenings. When I checked out, the front desk was speaking to a coworker. She didn’t has how my stay was. Just asked what room I was in and said I was good to go. I would highly recommend not staying here.

This is somewhere I have always wanted to stay. I had the opportunity to stay this past weekend. I was not disappointed. We stayed in the main hotel. Our room was great. There was a lot of room to move around and there was a nice sized closet to place our luggage and hang our clothes. The windows were very large and they could be opened. The bed was comfortable but there were only three pillows on the king sized bed. The hotel was very clean inside and the grounds were well maintained. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It was expensive to stay there, but I am glad we stayed there. It was something that was on my bucket list, so I had to stay when the opportunity presented itself. One thing I found frustrating was the thermostat that lit up each time motion was detected. When a person turns over the thermostat lit up for a few seconds. When I mentioned it to the front desk the person working didn't seem surprised. It was disappointing. It was certainly something that could have been mentioned at check in. There is also a lot of construction on the grounds.

This place is a complete rip-off. Three hundred and fifty a night for a room with no air conditioning, no regular cleaning service, no place for more than one suitcase, tiny room, and to top it off an event being held during our visit took all of the guests parking at the hotel. Both front and back of the hotel are going through major construction taking up all of the outside guest areas. And you get to listen to large earthmoving equipment all day long. None of which was mentioned on the website. Instead of updating and maintaining the legacy and history of these grounds the management chose to tout the dubious distinction of being a location used in films Dumb and Dumber, and the Shining. The real horror here is to your senses and bank account. This place is blight on Estes Park.

Room 428 was awesome! My daughter and I stayed 2 nights. First night we heard children laughing and carrying on. I was annoyed because I thought they were kids on Spring Break. When I looked out the door no one was there. Second night shadows all throughout the room with heavy boot steps pacing. Don’t forget to book the Ghost Tour! Jim is the best!!!

I was so looking forward to staying here. I should have read the reviews. So far, we sat in a cold room for hours because the heat was not working properly in the building. This morning the elevator was not working—i can’t walk up stairs and many people were struggling. We were out all day and the room was not made up—somehow no one told us we had to request it. The staff rarely answers the phone. They charge a $100 a night refundable fee - so if you are staying for more than a night, it can add up. Plus they are very slow about returning reservation fees- I changed a reservation and it is now 11 days and the fee has not been refunded. The rooms are dingy and dirty. I am so disappointed. I was looking forward to staying here. When I asked the front desk about all this, the only answer I got was that it is the slow season—and why should that matter? They are still charging a lot for a room and not delivering.

We were very disappointed in the Stanley since our Wonderfull visiting 2020. Since 2025 this hotel has been purchased by a complicated listing of private investment and managed by the Sage Group. Little did they tell us there is mass construction all around the hotel. The purpose of this company is to maximize profits on the great reputation and history of the Stanley. The pricing of everything was exorbitant and the quality of the room preps and offerings was the lowest. The employees were very nice but unable to make a decision outside of their strict policies. Ex we came early and the room was ready. In order to get in the room early they wanted to charge $25. Our room was located just inside the construction and next to all the drilling. Would they change our room , NO… the food was at best fair. A cheese omelette without cheese was still $18. This hotel previously rated a 5 star is current best a 3 star at best with 5 star pricing. This review is not to discourage anyone thinking of staying at the Stanley. It is for the ownership and Sage. You keep this up and this wonderful hotel will be bankrupted again.
