Good upper level resort. Not quite 5 star accommodation but almost. Staff were attentive and offered to take care of even simple tasks like setting up pool lounges. Lots of families with kids around but the adult pool was quiet and kid free. Valet was easy, prompt, friendly and courteous. Rooms were clean and well serviced multiple times daily. No complaints but based on past experiences at high end resorts this deserves a 4.5 rating.

The worst five-star hotel service I've ever stayed in! No doubt about it! I asked for an extra bed when I checked in at 3:00 PM, but it still hadn't arrived by 9:30 PM. I called twice to follow up, and eventually had to go to the front desk in person. It finally arrived at 10:30 PM! Another room didn't have a hairdryer. I called at 10:00 PM and they said they'd send one, but it still hadn't arrived by 11:30 PM, so my hair just dried on its own. I had to call and tell them to forget about it. 🥱

Last year we stayed at the Fairmount Orchid for Thanksgiving and loved it. This year we switched to the Mauna Lani and it’s another level. Everything is new, comfortable, well thought out, and beautiful. The staff are all nice and well trained. The food is very good. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. The room has an amazing balcony that we spent tons of time on and the bathroom is spacious with closing doors. A+++++

I am a Marriott guy through and through and prefer the Ritz and St Regis - but our company recently built an Auberge, so I decided to give this hotel a try. I was beyond impressed.

For starters, this hotel seems to do a better job than most resorts with programming. There were constant events planned throughout our stay. Snorkeling. Fresh coconut peeling. Pizza made on the beach. Lei making for my daughter.

Secondly, the location and beach was superb.

The service was very good.

The food options were spectacular.

We left very impressed and ready to plan our next Auberge vacation.

Mauna Lani far exceeded our expectations! All of the staff were so friendly and accommodating and welcoming from the moment we arrived and at the beginning and end of each day. The view from our room was exceptional. We booked a one bedroom suite which was more than enough room for my wife and I and our 2 teenage daughters. 2 full bathrooms and we all had our own sink, so much space and a huge balcony that we loved. The resort itself was so special with such a feeling of space and connection with nature, but still modern and refined. We will definitely come back!

Hotel Mauna Lani is absolutely breathtaking — a true gem on the Big Island. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and aloha spirit. The property is stunning, with beautifully maintained grounds, serene beaches, and spectacular ocean views.

The rooms are spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed, offering both comfort and luxury. Every detail feels intentional, from the relaxing atmosphere to the amenities that make you never want to leave.

The service is outstanding — the staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home, and you can tell they truly care about their guests’ experience. Dining was also exceptional, with fresh, flavorful dishes that celebrate the island’s ingredients.

Whether you’re looking to relax by the beach, explore the island, or indulge in world-class hospitality, Mauna Lani is the perfect place. I can’t recommend it highly enough — an unforgettable stay!

The lowest rating ever given is well deserved! The hygiene of a 5-star hotel is not as good as that of a 50-yuan homestay, which is terrifying. Pictures show the truth. Hygiene: Cockroaches bigger than fingers can fly! ! ! The door creaks at night, and I don’t know if there is something dirty trying to get in or the glass door is about to fall down! Environment: It’s just so-so. Because of the hygiene problem, I had a headache and couldn’t fall asleep, so I walked to the beach to take a look. The sand was not fine. Service: I can only say it’s okay, not good or bad. I called when I encountered cockroaches. They came after I killed the cockroaches myself. They only showed up after I killed the cockroaches myself. The insecticide could only be sprayed on me and taken away. It couldn’t be left to prevent other cockroaches. Very helpless 🙄. I booked two nights and didn’t refund the second night, so I changed a room. I bought a bottle of insecticide and the whole room was stuffy for a long time before I dared to enter the house! Don’t stay! Conscience evaluation!

This is my first review on Ctrip because it's so outrageous and severely impacted my travel experience that I want to warn others.

1. I booked the hotel because of the supposedly abundant activities, knowing they were very expensive, but I hoped to enjoy them within the hotel grounds. However, I was told there were no activities available due to sea conditions – too strong winds here, too few waves there. The only activity was the option to ride electric bikes within the hotel grounds for a few hundred dollars.

2. After booking, I asked Ctrip to contact the hotel to arrange a delayed check-out, but Ctrip couldn't reach the hotel and received no response whatsoever. Note that this isn't the hotel refusing my request; it's that Ctrip simply couldn't contact the hotel, regardless of my actual needs. For many years, I've used Ctrip, and their attentive and responsible customer service has always been a major reason for my use of the service. This is the first time I've experienced this; Ctrip customer service has repeatedly told me they're sorry, but they still haven't been able to contact the hotel.

3. The bathrobe had reddish-brown stains.

4. I stayed at the Four Seasons for the first four nights, and this hotel's restaurant and spa were priced higher than the Four Seasons', including the aforementioned supposedly abundant activities.

5. It was impossible to hail an Uber from the hotel at the last minute, as there were no entertainment options. I booked an activity near Kona town, but it was impossible to get a ride. I had already paid for the activity and needed to be there on time, otherwise it would be a waste of time and a greater loss. I had to ask the hotel reception to call a car for me. Uber cost $44, while the hotel charged $169.

6. In summary, the hotel offered no activities, getting around was extremely difficult, and the accommodations were mediocre. Regarding my request to postpone my check-out, Ctrip, as the agent, was completely unable to contact the hotel after booking. This extremely poor experience led me to change my flight and leave a night early. A hotel costing 12,000 RMB for two nights, I only stayed one night, and I wouldn't even want to stay there again.
