Pleasently surprised. The rooms have a retro look, but they are in very good shape. Shower had a lot of pressure so I enjoyed it very much. Beach area is kind of small but I was staying only one night and didn't care for that. The pool and jacuzzi aren't exposed in the middle of a parking so it looked more temping to have a swim. They have kayaks and SUP boards for the guests so that's a nice bonus.

No...this is not the Waldorf. I'm not sure why anyone would expect such massive renovations when paying less than a hundred bucks a night during Balloon Festival weekend, or anytime else really, when other local hotels are asking $200+. Anyway...since I didn't want to fork over two Benjamins a night for our two-night stay, we chose the Sundowner. I didn't expect grandeur, and I didn't need grandeur...what we got was a nice, clean room at an amazing rate ($79/nite) on the lake's edge with a pool and jacuzzi. Everybody kind and helpful, from reservation to checkout. It felt like we were part of a little community over those two days. There was more to try if we had more time. Just enough to make us (family of 4) comfortable in a room. We'll see you next year!

What a great place this was we rented the king suite in off season. Big beutiful room Great soaking tub and walking distance to pretty much everything. The host was super nice and super responsive 10 out of 10 highly recommend.

We rented 4 nights at the Sundowner the last week of August. Overall I was pleased with the facility, the interior had been re-done, I do have some minor suggestions for improvement. Our room was actually quite nice - a king room - on the second floor (appreciated it because it was quieter). There is no elevator or luggage service, so be prepared to haul your stuff up the steps or ask for a 1 st floor room. The room was exactly as pictured - was clean and was adequately supplied with towels, shampoo, etc. My suggestion is to keep the drapes open if you want service, otherwise they will pass right by, thinking you want privacy. The location of the motel is on the further end of town(convenient to the Thruway) but it wasn't too bad a walk to the village amusements (about 10-12 mins). Electronics: Flat screen TV worked well, there were only 2 outlets for charging, drying hair, so be aware. WiFi worked okay in the room, although it was slow in the afternoon. In terms of staff, while they handled check-in well, they had limited knowledge of places to eat, or other amusements that might be appropriate for visitors from out of state. Perhaps having a few brochures about local area attractions, hiking maps, and restaurant suggestions would be helpful in the office, or suggest we visit the Welcome Center downtown which is what we discovered on our own and was helpful. All in all, I would rate the Sundowner facility well, however, minor tweaks in service would be welcome (~4.5) In terms of food there are a few places within a short walk to grab breakfast, but prices and selection vary, so check out menus before hand. The beach and pool area were older, but adequate for the facility (cleanest in the morning). There was ample non-motorized water sports by the beach. Could have used some additional chairs around the pool ( I think there were only a handful) We did a lot of hiking, so hanging by the pool was not a key priority.

We had a wonderful vacation. The room was clean and supplied with all the essentials in the kitchen. The location was great and we were able to walk into town whenever we wished. We appreciated the attention to the beach each morning. There was no shortage of employees working the property throughout the day. There was access to several kayaks and paddle boards that were well taken care of. The deck overlooking the pool and the beach was charming.

It was amazing. The kids loved the hotel and the private access to the lake, canoeing, paddle boarding and others. We plan on coming back to this place and hotel next year!

I have been traveling to Lake George for years as I love the beauty and activities of this area. Normally hotel stays are ok and nothing really wows me. Most need updating. I stayed at the Sundowner and was so pleased with everything! The rooms are updated and are decorated like adorable log cabins inside. The room was spotless and spacious! The staff were friendly and accommodating. We had a small issue with air conditioning and they sent someone right away to fix it. Kima at reception desk and Jay Jay in property management really impressed me with their friendly demeanor and seemed interested in making sure we had a great time. Kayaks and paddleboards were free and other hotels charge a few. Will definitely be back again!! Great job done by the Sundowner team.

Looks completely renovated. Directly on Lake George. Free kayaks. Short walking distance to the town.
