Hotel Schwalbe in Vienna

A hotel with a homely atmosphere. Very nice service, very good contact with the owner. Cozy rooms, kettle and coffee maker in the room. Very tasty breakfast, lots of choice. We parked right outside the hotel, but there were plenty of free parking spaces in the surrounding streets. Close to supermarkets, close to the subway, tram stops and P+R car park. Recommendable.

Stayed here for a few days in early May. Overall, quiet neighborhood, quaint atmosphere and with a long history.

PROS
— Check in was smooth and hassle free.
— Room was small and cozy; room had a sink and shower, but shared toilet was in the hallway.
— My room was on the 3rd floor and there was not much noise at all from outside; great natural light.
— Internet connection in the room was good.
— Blankets and pillows were plentiful.
— It got cooler at night and there was a space heater in the room. It was just right.

CONS
—The hallways are noisy, so if people talk loudly, it will be amplified and you will hear the conversation clearly.
—There was a dog who barked ... a lot. And roamed freely in the dining area. That can be a turn off for some guests.
— No tissue in the room - for blowing your nose.
—The linen was small and thin.
—The toilet in the hallway is a bit of a hassle:
* At night, it’s dark in the hallway; if you have a torch, it will come in handy. There’s a light switch, but you’ll still need to find it.
* You can hear others get up to go the toilet.
* I felt reluctant to get up and go to the bathroom for fear that I might run into another guest in the hallway in my night clothes.
* There are no sinks in the toilet room, so ... no where to wash your hands.

OTHER HOTEL AMENITIES
—There’s an elevator/lift in the building.
— Nice breakfast room with authentic antiques and trinkets; and interesting decor throughout (though not an interesting decor in the rooms).
— Overall, the hotel is clean and the staff are friendly.
—The breakfast had pastries, fruit, boiled eggs, coffee, juice.

PROXIMITY / SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOOD
— Lots of options for quick grocery shopping - to pick up water or snacks. Same for pharmacy/drug store items.
— Public transportation is easily accessible; walking directions are relatively simple.
