We were looking for a quick weekend getaway to ski for a couple of days. Bad Gastein seemed like a good choice (an hour from Salzburg with a direct train route).

We looked for hotels (bearing in mind if skiing you need to consider getting to the lifts) there were several in the price bracket but Grubers hotel looked right for how nice the rooms were, the facilities and although not in central Bad Gastein, there was a regular bus which took 4 minutes to the lift.

Although we found them on booking.com, we chose to book directly with them and I’d highly recommend doing so, it was slightly cheaper and because their business has adopted WhatsApp business, it was extremely easy communicating with them. We had to move our stay dates and they were very flexible in changing to our preferred.

On arrival, we were greeted by Gerti and soon learnt that it was a family run hotel. They were very helpful, they even offered us a nicer room for a very small cost increase. The bed were comfortable, the linen clean and high quality.

The water pressure was good, facilities good, lovely sauna area. Their updates and communication (all by WhatsApp) was clear and relevant, we asked for restaurant recommendations, they responded promptly and on eating at their recommended restaurant (next door), we were very pleased with it.

Even during the holidays they could offer to dogsit while we went skiing, and had great recommendations of what to do in the valley. Only a 10 min bus ride from the bad gastein lift system so it was very convenient to get there. Also nice to get away from the more tourist packed areas, as it felt more local around the hotel.

Clean rooms, friendly staff, brandnew sauna top. Very hospitable also with kids and also with dogs. For skiing need to take the bus (every 30 mins and appeix. 200 m to bus stop or car.

Very comfortable hotel at the highest end of the beautiful Bad Gastein valley. The facilities were excellent, the breakfasts delicious and the beds and cooking facilities in the room really convenient. There is a sauna and the hotel is just 10 minutes drive from the amazing Sport Gastein ski resort area with a wild and high mountain feel to it, and just 5 minutes from Gastein and 10 minutes from Bad Hofgastein ski areas. There was a big thaw the week we were there but there was still plenty of good snow at the top of Sport Gastein

We had the loft apartment for 4 adults and 2 children. One bed was relatively comfy, the sofa bed in the second room however was absolutely terrible. It was broken, awfully uncomfortable, on many different angles and very very short - at 5ft2 I was too tall for it. The shower was unreliable and would frequently go burning hot when anyone in the entire building turned on their water. Our children would complain of getting burned and would have to jump out of the shower regularly until it cooled down again. Many things in the kitchen were broken, chairs were broken etc etc etc I was very disappointed with this accommodation.

On the upside Bad Gastein and Bockstein are absolutely beautiful and the skiing fantastic.

„Can't get better location that this. It's really close to SportGastein. We got apartment with breakfast for the price od double room, followed with bluebird powder day. I think that says it all.“

Place for guests with dogs only. Lots of ticks from dogs. Very dirty. Very noisy, the hotel is on the main road.
Breakfast so bad. Owner is cheated on me. Look for other place, it's the Alps, there is so many other beautiful hotels
