Selina Bad Gastein in Bad Gastein

The family room was spacious and had great views. 4 comfortable beds. The swimming pool and sauna was very nice too.

Selina Bad Gastein is a rustic hotel in the center of "downtown" Bad Gastein. The building is some 200 years old and judging by the elevator, the place is in need of some renovating.

The location is great, but can also include disturbing noise from the nightlife scene in the neighborhood. We were there in the early fall, so it was nice and peaceful most of the time. The bed and bed linen in our room was super comfy and though they don't clean rooms more than every 2nd or 3rd day, we were able to grab fresh towels as needed from the pool/spa area in the basement.

The team managing the hotel's café are incredibly friendly and helpful and the food is fabulous there. While friendly enough, the reception staff came off as being a bit lazy and sometimes suprisingly argumentative. Instead of solving problems, they would brush off our concerns as if solving them weren't really part of their job description.

A clear example of this is the bad Internet connection we experienced most of our week there. Now, there was nothing wrong with the WIFI connection in our room, it was strong and stable. But the hotel has clearly opted for way too little bandwidth. I hope that the hotel’s management gets in touch with their ISP to increase it and thereby better meet the needs of guest like us that working remotely.

Overall this is a good hotel to stay in. At least when it’s not fully occupied. From what I heard, during the winter season, Bad Gastein gets super busy and I might not pick Selina as my first choice as it is pretty far away from the villages nearest ski lifts. But if you’re in the Gastein valley to ski and party, well, this is probably one of the better hotels.
