Description

Nuovo Hotel Playa Catalina is a two-star property in La Romana offering a range of room types including Standard, Deluxe, Classic, and Grand rooms, some with balconies and courtyard views. The hotel operates with an 8/10 rating across cleanliness, amenities, location, and service, providing air conditioning, free parking, a restaurant, bar, and beachfront access. Guests will find an on-site ATM, currency exchange, and a 24-hour front desk. While the design is described as charming with a garden, terrace, and pool area featuring a cover, some reviews note the facilities are somewhat dated and could use updating. The staff is frequently praised for friendliness and helpfulness, though a few guests have reported issues with customer service and maintenance. Pets including dogs and cats are allowed, and there is WiFi throughout. Breakfast is served continental style but requires an additional fee. Payment by cash and credit cards (MasterCard, Visa) is accepted. Overall, the hotel offers good value for money, particularly for travelers visiting the colonial district or those with plans involving the nearby cruise port.

Location

Located on Carr. La Caleta in La Romana, Nuovo Hotel Playa Catalina is approximately 540 meters from Playa Caleta beach, making it a short walk for beach access. The property is about 10 kilometers from Casa de Campo International Airport (LRM), convenient for those flying in or out. The hotel is situated within the colonial district, which provides easy access to local shopping and dining options. Several reviewers mention its proximity to the cruise port, and a popular local chicken restaurant is just two blocks away. However, the immediate surrounding area has been described as busy with motorcycles and some nuisance from flies, so travelers should be prepared for an active street environment.

Nice, clean hotel, nothing exceptional but you have all you need and all in all everything is in order. Very good value for money and friendly staff. A little bit noisy at night and it was only possible to pay in cash.
Overall, thumbs up!

The Hotel needs updating in terms of facilities and accommodations. It was clean in spite of the primitive amenities. Overall the staff was wonderful and totally accommodating. They worked well together and provided excellent service.

Excellent pick. Close to cruise port, there's a great chicken place two blocks away, and the family-run hotel is very welcoming. Shout-out to Davide, Micaela, and Joseph

Terrible Experience – Avoid This Place at All Costs!

I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this experience deserves a warning to others. First off, the pool was dirty—not just a few leaves, but clearly neglected. That was the first red flag.

Then we tried to order a simple mojito, and they didn’t even have the right liquor to make one. A basic cocktail, and they couldn’t manage it.

The place felt like a ghost town—no staff in sight, and when someone finally did show up, they seemed uninterested in helping.

But the real insult? We were charged 1,600 pesos for fried shrimp and fries—a dish that probably takes 10 minutes to make. When we voiced our concern about the absurd price, they were barely accommodating and acted like it was normal.

If you run a business, customer satisfaction should be your #1 priority. Clearly, this place is only focused on upcharging tourists as much as possible. It's not just bad service—it's robbery in plain sight.

Do yourself a favor and completely avoid this place. There are much better spots that respect their customers and offer real value. This is not one of them.

I don’t think I’ve ever given a bad review for a hotel. But I must say the public relations in this particular place is nonexistent always made me feel very uncomfortable.

The hotel offers excellent value for money, located right in the colonial district, making shopping very convenient. It has an open-air restaurant with very good food. My room didn't have a window, but the ceiling was very high, so it didn't feel cramped at all. The facilities are a bit dated, but that's insignificant compared to the price! The staff were also very friendly!

I am a travel agent and I sent my guest here for two nights before their cruise. Unfortunately, due to airline delays, they were unable to check in for their first night. The owner of this property still charged them even though this was out of their control. When I brought this to the owner's attention over the phone, he hung up. Very unprofessional. Do not stay here.

Left room at 6am.
Felt like I was in jail, desk from concrete, can't leave hotel gate locked and no one there, no food in room, you must eat outside and buy their food and enjoy the mosquitos, no hot water after 9pm.
I gave one star and it is way too generous.
Also, is it dangerous to walk outside, and nothing to do, you would have to drive 35 min away from there to eat.
We left ASAP!!!
