Reviews
One of the aspects that left much to be desired was the overall maintenance of the property. The whole property was neglected over many years, with the French charm long gone. This is a money making machine at lowest possible cost. It would be encouraging to see the hotel management pay more attention to regular maintenance routines.
The French charm is often a bit shabby, but in a still stylish and nice way. This is something else.
When approached with our concerns, hotel management replied: "Well, you rarely get what the picture says at McDonalds either." Brutal and honest.
In terms of cleanliness, it was fair, but there were a few issues that caught our attention. There were ants in the bathroom, which was an inconvenience. The staff suggested to spray the apartment with insect spray, but we politely declined.
Additionally, the shower area did have some mold in the ceiling, which was disappointing. While this is not uncommon in humid environments, it would be beneficial for the hotel to invest in more thorough cleaning routines and proper ventilation to maintain a hygienic environment for guests.
As for the beds, I found them to be quite firm. Personal preferences may vary, but in my case, they were so uncomfortable I struggled to find a restful sleep. It would be beneficial if the hotel offered a variety of mattress options to cater to the preferences of different guests.
On a positive note, the staff at Hotel Emeraude were generally polite and willing to assist when approached. However, them offering to clean the room did nothing towards the overall neglect and low standard.
In summary, our stay at Hotel Emeraude was disappointing due to the lackluster maintenance and the run down sub par standard, presence of ants in the bathroom, mold in the shower, and uncomfortable beds. With some attention to detail and an improved commitment to cleanliness, this hotel has the potential to provide a more satisfactory stay for its guests.
My verdict is that better, more authentic and charming accommodation can be found for less in Antibes.
Not really a hotel , more a pension. You can park for free on the street near the house.
A decent place, you can reach see side in 5 minutes and Antibes center in 10/15 by foot. Good internet, relaxing bed and a nice kitchen.
Cons:
1. At check in they did not found our Booking.com book. After 10 minute of waiting it was fixed but they did not have the room ready.
2. They gave us a different room because ours was not clean/ready. It was a better/bigger room but i found out that its a different one after we enter the room, and i would prefer my initially booked one, as it was smaller and better for me.
3. The stuff there is a bit to "friendly", we have to wait for them until they made the bed and wait for some kitchen stuff. Usually when a person arrived they need to go to toilet or relax a bit not wait or discuss stuff.
4. They have a dog at ground floor in 1 of the rooms that is on the way out. When i went out from the small elevator i pop into a open door where i could here a loud barking. Not a nice thing to hear with a small baby as you don't know what to expect and what king of dog is it.
5. Nobody asked us regarding the trash bags. Usually when you have a quicken and a baby you will have a lot of trash. We put 4 full plastic bags on the balcony. (after a 4 days stay).
5. Only 1 roll of toilet paper for 4 days.
6. Some towels were dirty and gray.
7. Nobody cleaned the room in 4 days, but you can expect this from a small pension.
8. The furniture in the room needs some fixing.
9. Has the same price as a good hotel. We took this one because they have the kitchen in the room.
Advice for owners: invest more time and money in comfort and cleaning and less of nice grass in the yard or nice entrance door.
Would highly not recommend , please don’t waste your time and money on this place.
It has gorgeously appointed kitchens. everything is very clean and well lit. the entire place feels very special and I absolutely loved my stay there.
I will certainly hope to stay there again. Best value for money in the South of France!
Everything was fine at first, the place was nice and clean, great price and perfect location - gym was nearby which was excellent. I was enjoying my time and I felt in peace.
Later that week one of the brothers (owners??) told me they had complaints that there was a noise coming out of my room. I explained that it is impossible because I am away all day and only come there to shower, study and I go to sleep early - I would never play music or even speak on the phone as I was very focused on my studies and having enough rest. The man's reaction was "yeah yeah just keep it quiet", he wouldn't even look into my eyes almost as he didn't believe me. I am certainly not someone to lie and make noise so I was a bit touched by that, but I let it go. I told myself It was going to be my last night there anyway and I'll be out.
To my great disappointment, as I was checking out of the residence the next morning, I was paying for my stay with a 500eur note (which I didn't think was something unusual in France) and the man at the reception would ask me if I made that 500eur that night I was "noisy". I think I must have paused for a minute because my mind couldn't quite comprehend what I was hearing from a "host". Obviously, he said he was joking, (I doubt he was), but I just found this absolutely disrespectful and unacceptable behaviour towards a guest. It's been a few years now but it is still shocking to me that I was basically humiliated for no reason whatsoever.
I didn't give one star because other than the owner's lack of manners (or should I say bad sense of humor) there was nothing negative about my stay. I will recommend this place only because it is in fact beautiful and I am choosing to believe other visitors had been treated with respect.
