Hôtel la Tartane Hotel in St. Tropez

We visited Hotel Tartane last year and absolutely loved it. It was one of those rare boutique hotels that felt peaceful, charming, and genuinely special. We enjoyed our stay so much that returning this year was an easy decision.

Unfortunately, the hotel we came back to is nothing like the one we remembered.

The biggest disappointment is that the hotel no longer seems to prioritize its guests. Every evening around 6:30 p.m., everyone is asked to leave the pool because the entire area is taken over by Gaia restaurant. In July, when the sun doesn’t set until almost 10:00 p.m., being able to relax by the pool in the evening is a huge part of the Saint-Tropez experience. Instead, you’re suddenly left with nowhere to go because the hotel’s main space is no longer for hotel guests.

What frustrated us most was that none of this was communicated before we arrived. There was no mention on the website, no warning from the concierge, and nothing on social media. If we had known the pool would effectively close every evening, we would have chosen another hotel.

The noise was another major issue. Once Gaia opens, the music is so loud that our room actually vibrated. I appreciate that Saint-Tropez is lively, but guests paying close to €2,000 per night deserve to be able to relax and sleep without feeling like they’re staying inside a nightclub.

Housekeeping was also surprisingly poor. More than once, we came back late in the day to find our room hadn’t been cleaned. We had to contact reception and ask them to follow up with housekeeping before anything happened. Chasing staff to have your room serviced is not what anyone expects from a luxury hotel.

The bathroom was another ongoing problem. The shower barely drained, flooding the entire bathroom floor every single time we used it. The towels weren’t enough to deal with the water, and we even had to ask the concierge to send someone to dry the bathroom because it was completely soaked.

The most disappointing part of the experience was the attitude of the concierge team. Rather than showing empathy or trying to resolve our concerns, we were met with a very dismissive response that there was essentially nothing they could do. Good service isn’t always about having a solution. It’s about making guests feel heard and valued. Unfortunately, we never felt that way.

It’s genuinely sad to see how much this hotel has changed in just one year. What was once a tranquil boutique escape now feels like a venue built around an outside restaurant, with hotel guests coming second.

We won’t be returning, and I can’t recommend Hotel Tartane anymore. There are too many wonderful hotels in Saint-Tropez to spend this kind of money on an experience that falls so far short of expectations.
