DADIANI Inn in Zugdidi

Interesting and elegant museum in often-overlooked Zugdidi. The palace has a fascinating history and even a connection to Napoleon’s family. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in western Georgia.

Dadiani Palace in Zugdidi, Georgia, once home to the noble Dadiani family, showcases 19th-century elegance. Surrounded by lush gardens, it houses a museum with art, artifacts, and Napoleon’s personal relics.

12 GEL entrance fee, credit cards accepted. There were some interesting exhibits and almost everything had explanations in English. The place is bit run down though.

Unfortunately the main building of the museum itself was closed due to a private event. We were able to visit the church and witness their daily ritual starting with the bells ringing. The palace has a vast campus that is good to stroll around in.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Dadiani Palace Museum in Zugdidi. The exhibits were really nice, but I think the instructions could have been better. It took me around 40 minutes to see everything, but I would still recommend visiting the museum.
The palace itself is a beautiful 19th-century building built in Neo-Gothic style by David Dadiani, who was a remarkable man and had connections to Napoleon and the Romanovs. The museum has a collection of interesting historical finds, including archaeological finds from Nokalakevi, icons, manuscripts, and relics. If you’re interested in history, this is definitely a place worth visiting.

In the green heart of Zugdidi, the capital of Mingrelia, stands the neo-Gothic palace that has been the residence of the powerful Dadiani family since the 17th century. The Dadianis had been the eristavi (dukes) since the 12th century and from 1542 the mtavari (princes) of Mingrelia (or Samegrelo). In 1840, Prince David I organized an archaeological exhibition in the palace, a harbinger of the future because in 1921 the palace was transformed into the Samegrelo Museum (which has been officially called the Dadiani Palaces Historical and Architectural Museum since 2005). The museum exhibits around 50,000 artefacts of a historical and ethnographic nature. Some highlights from the collection are: the Mother of God holy vesture, the icon of queen Bordokhan (mother of queen Tamar), manuscripts from 13th – 14th centuries, memorial relics of Dadiani dynasty, and one of the three bronze death masks of Emperor Napoleon I. The museum is one of the few tourist attractions of Zugdidi.

Nice place to take photos, but the Palace unfortunately is not well maintained. There is a botanical garden right next to it, so strongly recommend to visit that garden when there. I think those are most famous places to see in Zugdidi.

Great Palace, Garden is very beautiful, next to the second palace is a Botanical Garden Zugdidi. I recommend to see it both.
Dadiani palace museum not working on Monday .

If you are in Zugdidi, you have to see this museum! There are a lot of interesting exhibits, such as old icons and church utensils, furniture, interior items, dishes and decorations of the dynasty of Mengrelian princess. You can also see the death mask of Napoleon. The museum has beautiful yard.
