Marie Palace in Patras

The only good thing is the location. I will share my experience. We were supposed to come on the day when the biggest fires in the city were. The room was booked for a few nights 10 days before. Until then, they responded to messages within 10 minutes. On the day we were supposed to come, they didn't respond to our message for 4 or 5 hours. We sent a message again and again after a long time (about 1 or 2 hours) they told us that it was safe and that we could come IF WE WANT because the fire was in the mountain. When we arrived around 9 pm, we saw that the fire was spreading to the industrial zone and that it was very close to the road, a section of the highway was even closed. The hotel was acting as nothing was happening. The city was like a ghost town, we saw 10 people in total for 2 hours of walking in city center. We found out that they had received an evacuation SMS at 6 pm. No one informed us about that. We returned to the hotel because it was midnight. We slept in shifts... The bathroom was very dirty, long black hairs in the shower and on the bathroom floor. The fire alarm from the next building went ON every 15 minutes. In the morning we didn't even want to have breakfast, we checked out quickly and asked for a refund for the remaining nights. They told us to contact Booking, then Booking suggested a change that the hotel initially didn't accept on platform, but after some arguing, part of the money was refunded. A hotel shouldn't put someone's life in danger for profit. We are tourists and they could have told us that it wasn't safe, that they would refund our money and that we should find Hotel in another city. Our car was covered in ash.. In the morning we were woken up by firefighting planes. We understand the emergency situation, but not the hotel's negligence! If we hadn't shown up, our money probably wouldn't have been refunded. A very bad experience. We cannot rest and enjoy the city where we watch our brotherly Orthodox people save their lives, homes and essential things. Of course we went to another city. It is ugly that we, as tourists, sit in cafes while the people in that city lose everything that is important.

The sliding glass door in the first room that we were provided didn’t locked. We had request to switch rooms despite staff telling that it was staff; we were on the first floor and didn’t want to leave our belongings and sleep in a room with a broken door. The mattresses in both the rooms we were in (two single beds) were very hard and mainly springs. Rooms and doors and not sound proof, so we could hear people in the hallways late hours and early mornings - pretty loud. Also a odour in the room, mix of cat urine and cigarettes. The rooms need some updating, renovations and new beds.

The staff were pleasant and the lobby was nice.
