The people at Eldá are incredibly nice, helpful and professional. Plus the room and amenities are wonderful!
We later realized the entire building had been rented out by one group, and we were the only ones not part of it. We didn’t mind and kept to ourselves. After a very long drive from Höfn, we just wanted to cook a quick dinner. We were surprised to see a sign in the kitchen saying that use of the kitchen was only allowed until 11 PM, something that hadn’t been communicated to us earlier, so we had to rush through everything.
In the morning, we cooked again before checking out since we had a long day of driving ahead and needed to prepare our meals. That’s the main reason we booked a place with kitchen access. But one of the group members suddenly started angrily complaining in their language, seemingly about our cooking and something about a fire alarm. I asked her if our cooking triggered the alarm, but she just walked out angrily without answering. It was an unpleasant experience that made us feel unwelcome, even though we paid for our room just like everyone else.
If you plan to stay here, I recommend specifically requesting a room in a building that is not dominated by one big group that makes the shared facilities uncomfortable to use.
Quite central for Lake Mývatn with petrol pump supermarket at walking distance. Quite a spacious apartment with 2 separate bedrooms and a living area and a good kitchen. Early check in offered for no additional cost.

Bad:
- The property is dated and sort of a damp smell was there
- Front door lock didn't work it can't be locked
- Living area window doesn't have blinds or curtains and open to a road. Less privacy.
Con: Room was extremely warm even though we opened the window and turned down the heating (outside was 4 degrees!). This wasn’t comfortable at all. The walls are thin which makes the rooms very noisy; when we stayed there, there was a family with young children and we could hear every sound.
Advice: leave the keys in the door on the outside because they cannot be opened without them and you only get 1.
