Reviews
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see the northern lights during the night I stayed, as the sky wasn’t clear enough. Still, the location felt promising for aurora viewing, and I’d love to return for another chance.
My wife Sheri and I, traveled on vacation together in Sept. from Miami, FL. to Iceland to take a break away from the heat and humidity in Miami to explore Iceland country during Autumn/Winter season. We enjoyed our short stay at the Hellisholar Cottages. My wife really enjoyed the cold weather. We got Free parking included in our stay, Free wifi, hot and cold water, clean room, in a very quiet and peaceful area too.
1. Cottage Door lock was defective and door could not be locked.
2. Kettle was defective and did not switch off automatically when water reached boiling temperature. It has to be unplugged. Fire hazard issue.
All these, besides the fact that it is a filthy place, never cleaned with dirty bedheets and one towel provided.
Old, filthy, unsafe cottage. I should have never booked this one.
Where else could we find:
• A toilet seat that wobbles like it’s auditioning for a dance show.
• A showerhead with commitment issues – constantly falling off like it just couldn’t handle the pressure.
• Light switches hanging on for dear life, with exposed wiring for that authentic “DIY electrics” charm.
• Designer blinds (by “designer” I mean filthy, scratched, and half-missing) – plus no blind at all on the main door, so we could enjoy a romantic floodlight effect all night.
• Dust and dirt so carefully preserved on heaters, floors, and windows that it should be part of a museum exhibit.
Staff? About as welcoming as a brick wall.
Value for money? Only if you enjoy paying luxury prices for a live demonstration of neglect.
If you’re looking for a 5-star experience in disappointment, this is your spot.
This was our first night in Iceland. We checked in late, however the front desk lady was super friendly and accommodating. We drove up to our cabin and it was a perfect start to our trip. Very rustic and quant. The three of us comfortably slept in a bed each. Would recommend!
