La Corte Vetere in Matera

Beautiful family room in the heart of Matera. Very clean room, comfortable beds and coffee machine. Bathroom was spotless, modern and had complimentary toiletries. Stunning view of Matera from terrace where you can relax.

Giovanni was an excellent host and very helpful.
The video sent to us prior to arrival showing how to find our room was so good and precise.
Our room was clean and spacious, with tea and coffee facilities.
The private terrace and breakfast provided was plentiful and the staff were so friendly.
Would definitely recommend this property, very quiet but only a few minutes walk to the busy streets of Matera.

Fantastic stay in beautiful Matera
A little tricky to locate as so many nooks & crannies in beautiful Matera, but once we found it & got in it was wonderful. The room is beautifully clean & well furnished & we slept so well. Claudia was a wonderful hostess at breakfast and so friendly. Highly recommended.

We booked the Grotta Room for only 1 night. It was spectacular. Check-in was smooth. I loved the location. It was a great value. Outdoor breakfast with a view was a highlight.

Location, Location, Location... it is incredible to sleep in one of the "caves" of Matera withing the Sassi neighborhood. Claudia, who helps during breakfast is a lovely lady who prepares some great cappuccinos... Claudio, and Geovany are responsive and try to solve the issues. Excellent Breakfast, in a lovely terrace with one amazing view of Matera. Things to improve: 1. The pictures are a bit deceptive, honestly when I booked the property I thought I was going to a "hotel" in Matera.. and this was not the case. 2. They should be more accurate in their description of the difficulties to arrive to the property, once you make the reservation. There is a big difference between the description below you receive on your confirmation email... "Kindly be advised that we recommend traveling with comfortable luggage, as reaching the property requires navigating a typical Sassi di Matera pathway, which includes stairs both up and down". And the video they sent you the day before arrival. If you plan to go, do not go with large luggage, at the most go with a carry-on or a backpack, if not it will be a challenge to walk from the parking garage to your room carrying your luggage. Initially they gave me the option to hire a third party to help me with the luggage (at a cost of 8 Euro per trip), then after some discussion, they offered to help me themselves. Finally I decided to re-arrange my luggage, and leave the heavy suitcase inside the car, and go to the property just with two carry-ons. They tried to help and solve the issue, however it is still a difference between the description on the confirmation email, and the actual video of how to get to the property. Also, the room is not as nice as it is shown and described in the booking page. We had no AC in our room "Superior Family Room for 5", and although the fact that it is a cave, helps to keep a cooler temperature, in the summer it could be hot. (there are other rooms with AC) They could put some real cups or glasses, and not only plastic/paper.

My husband and I stayed in the Junior Suite at La Corte Vetere and had an incredible experience. The room itself — an actual cave — was unlike anything we’d ever seen, beautifully done and full of character. Claudio’s hospitality was exceptional; he stayed in touch with us directly via WhatsApp and was always helpful. Matera is a stunning old town with excellent restaurants, lovely cafés, and plenty of historic sites to explore.

We highly recommend La Corte Vetere. It is a lovely accomodation with exceptional sorrounding and view. It was very clean and the service was perfect.
