Hotel Marconi in Padua

On 9/24/24, our cousin and his wife checked us into two pre-booked rooms at this hotel after a long day drive from Salzburg, Austria and several hours touring Venice. The young man at the desk was helpful and friendly. When we got to our rooms we were very happy with cleanliness and arrangements however the rooms were a bit warm. We attempted to turn on the HVAC unit but couldn’t figure out how to get it to work as it would turn off immediately as it started. As we were leaving the hotel to go get some dinner we mentioned this to the desk clerk. The desk clerk explained he did not know why it wasn’t working but that his “Boss” was onsite and he would call him. A man appeared promptly and stated “Do I look like the Boss?” We all assumed he was just making funny conversation and explained that our rooms were too warm and we couldn’t get the HVAC to work. This man stated “you don’t need to turn the air on. The temperature is perfectly comfortable. Did you just come here to push some buttons?” We all were shocked he was so rude and he kept arguing that it was going to get cooler tonight and we would not need the air conditioning on. None of us had ever experienced this type of rude customer service at a hotel before. We decided that we didn’t want to subject ourselves to more of his sarcasm so we walked outside to go to dinner and he followed us outside saying “if you want me to turn it on I will but you don’t need it. If you don’t like it here you can write a review.” Wow! We couldn’t believe that he continued to be rude and he said to my husband…”Look at this guy, he looks so mad. Smile…smile.” My husband started walking down the street to get away and I was still on the front steps of the hotel with this guy. I told him “Okay, no problem, if you’re not going to turn it on then that’s that.” We all then walked to a restaurant in town for dinner. When we returned to the hotel our rooms were still overly warm. We opened the windows and turned on the overhead fan to move the air around. We were still uncomfortable and did not sleep well. When we went down for breakfast this man was at the front desk and asked “How was it?” My cousin did not want to argue with this guy anymore and just said “it was okay.” The lady at the front desk was helpful and kind. I think she was the owner but we were not sure and did not want to bother since we were leaving shortly. I can honestly say I will never return to this hotel and hope readers of this review will avoid booking rooms here. This encounter left such a bad impression.
