APA Hotel Fukui Katamachi in Fukui

I'm leaving this review specifically because I work at a large resort in the USA on the coast (Sea Island) so I truly understand what it takes to run a property.

I'll start with the positives:
The staff is very kind and attentive. It is easy to ask questions, even as someone who only knows basic Japanese, and each time I have been to the desk they have been able to provide someone who can translate.
The food at breakfast was great. It has a nice variety available from different proteins, curry, fruit, bread, and starches. We did not dine for dinner, but that is because we were away during those hours and ate at places closer to us. And I'd like to add that the staff at breakfast was very kind.
It is near by many great locations. Convenient stores, restaurants, attractions, spas. You will not be bored if you are either comfortable walking around the area, or if you are unable to walk far it is very easy to call a taxi.

This next part is very minor to me specifically because of how the situation was handled...
Our first room had an odor coming from the restroom. I believe it was mildew. Initially I thought it would pass, but it did end up spreading through the room. This was room 632. I am highly allergic, so it did cause me to lose sleep and have a bit of a headache.
With this being said, I say it is minor because when I approached the front desk staffing in hopes to change rooms, they did not hesitate to remedy the situation. I did not mention my allergies or that it caused my head to ache, it was not necessary to tell them, they were happy to assist without needing 'serious' reasoning.
The transfer was very easy and they were quick to make it happen.
Our second room has been great. No issue with smell or cleanliness.

I will add, in hopes of someone in a position to correct this may view it, that the bed being pressed to the windowsill may be contributing to the mildew. It was snowing and the room was warm, so when my husband laid down to rest he noticed his side of the bed was damp. After moving the curtain to the side, he mentioned there was a large accumulation of water from precipitation. This was an issue in the first room. Our second room has the head of the bed to the window so it is not affecting the sheets or contacting fabric with moisture.

I know this was a long review but I wanted to finish it off by saying they have great staff, very good breakfast food, and considering the price I believe it to be fair. Good staffing makes a huge difference. If they hadn't handled things so well, this review would have been much different. So, thank you! This is our second APA hotel since we have been in Japan, our first was in Tokyo, and over the coming weeks when we go to Kyoto and back to Tokyo we plan to continue being loyal to this brand.

PSA: As someone with large tattoos, I was unable to use the public bath. This to me was no issue because I expected it in more traditional areas, but i wanted to add it in case it was helpful to anyone wondering. If you have small ones you can cover with the provided masking from the front desk, you can use the bath.

I stayed at this hotel for a conference. It was basically the same as a regular business hotel, but the second and third floors were a super public bathhouse, with not only an open-air bath but also a sauna, which was great.

I was impressed with the courteous service despite my late check-in, and I'm also grateful for the prompt response to my room change.

It's neither good nor bad.

There are many restaurants next to the hotel.

As a solo traveler, the room had sufficient space, had been cleaned well before my arrival, and made my stay easy with items supplied in room. The staff was all friendly and acted professionally. Not far from Fukui Station and there were enough restaurants to choose from in the vicinity. You'd better know what type of accommodation you're staying at. It's not a five star hotel, though their services may be as great. Nor is it a hostel or motel. Thanks, APA Hotel!

I had a pleasant stay. The reception staff were very kind and helpful.

Room is excellent, bit bigger than other 3star japan hotel, with good quality interior, bed and amenities. The most impressive is they have public bath onsen, with all facilities : several warm indoor pool, steam room & relax room. I enjoy it very much. Just location is quite far from Fukui station, need 15min on foot, about 900mtr.
