Mama Shelter Luxembourg in Luxembourg

This is definitely the largest hostel I’ve ever stayed in and Luxembourg was my forty second country. It’s huge and more like a hotel, I’m not sure I’d want to be here when it’s full. The positives are you get a decent breakfast - however I did mention to them to invest in some toasters. I was in a room of six which was quite spacious, and there were very large lockers in the room for free. The bed was comfortable enough and there was a wash basin in there too. The toilets and showers were close by, and I found all of the staff to be friendly. The location is perfect with buses stopping just a three minute walk away and many of the tourist attractions close by too. Given that Luxembourg is quite expensive, the price of £33 per night with breakfast was reasonable. The negatives about the hostel are even in January with the weather freezing outside, the room was boiling, and of the six beds, four of them had their night lights not working. I told reception immediately when I arrived but when I left three days later no one had been to fix it. There was also no privacy curtain around any of the beds. There’s no kitchen here to make your own food and nor was there a fridge to store food. Instead they have an expensive cafe. I found the shower room very uncomfortable as there was no vent, no window, and the radiator was on full blast. Even though there was a wash basin in the room, there was no soap dispenser. This was the same with the two basins in the shower room but no soap dispensers. The hostel is kept as clean as possible and I saw the cleaning being done every morning very early. However, in such a large hostel you can imagine what the toilets and showers look like in the evening. There should be another clean taking place mid afternoon. Finally, the breakfast times are really weird. I get up early so it wasn’t a problem for me, but the opening hours are 06:30-09:00. As well as the toaster situation, some fruit would have been nice too.

This is the only hostel I found in Luxembourg. I stayed in youth hostels before in Japan and this is same concept. I like that the staff are nice and accommodating and helpful in recommendations for restaurants. The beds are nice, I was able to sleep well. The location is quite in thw low lands and have to hike up to the old town and train station. The toilets are shared and somwtimes not so clean. They have lockers in case of late checkout.

Although this hostel is located down south-west of the country, the free public transportation is well connected by train and bus lines. The single bed provided is a bit narrow and I hope the management could look into the condition of the pillow which has degraded to be replaced. Above all else, the place is clean and the super friendly staff will make up for your stay to be pleasant and comfy. I must compliment all the reception staff namely Cindy and Romaine, not to forget the two ladies which register my stay on the 5/08/25 around 3 to 4 pm local time. I'm looking forward to another leisurely visit again.

I booked this hostel solely to save money but received far more value than expected. The location is remarkably tranquil and quaint, yet conveniently served by road and rail public transport. It's fantastic for hiking and photography enthusiasts. The building is well-maintained and exceptionally clean for a hostel. The staff are friendly, professional, and readily available to help. The restaurant offers good, nutritious food catering to various dietary needs, including standard, vegetarian, and vegan options, all at reasonable prices. The restaurant staff are also helpful, friendly and always willing to assist. Understandably, food choices are limited. The inclusive breakfast is modest but of good quality. I did not use the hostel's Wi-Fi as I have unlimited Europe roaming service with a mobile phone subscription. The rooms are super cleaned with ensuite shared toilet and bathroom. The only minor shortcomings were the absence of hand sanitiser gel anywhere at the hostel and the lack of hand wash gel in the toilets. Nevertheless, I rate this hostel a perfect 10 out of 10. I highly recommend it!

The pillows are the worst I have ever experienced but the rest of the stay was great - bit hot in the rooms and could do with privacy curtain to the bottom bunk. Staff really helpful, friendly and welcoming. The Melting Pot cafeteria offers excellent simple, nourishing food. Breakfast self service very good, menus offer good value. Loation is a little tricky to find as its down at the bottom of the valley located from many different directions by winding roads so easy to get lost.

Excellent location within minutes walk distance to sights. On arrival staff was friendly and helpful. I had a good rest as the dorm was quiet and clean, lockers inside the dorm, good wifi, clean facilities, very nice outside space with restaurant and bar with good prices, I loved the food, 24/ reception. would stay here again and recommend to anyone looking for good location. No privacy curtains for the beds in the mix dorm, not all beds had plugs near the bed.

Good breakfast, great location

The location is excellent. It takes 20 minutes to walk to the city. The interior decoration is very new and very clean. Three people sharing a room may slightly affect sleep. Check-in is very convenient.
