It's my third time of staying in this hotel. I came every year. This year has new owner. Room and breakfast the same. However service has dropped in that the bed now only gets to be made upon request, water and soap given only when asked. The translucent curtain no longer there so one has to draw big curtain when one is naked but it makes the room dark. Wi-Fi could be stronger according to other occupants who needed to give zoom presentation.

A wonderful place to stay in Kathmandu, in the middle of everything, easy walking distance to the Boudha Stupa and many monasteries. Nice room, guaranteed HOT water, good breakfast, great service, reasonable price. There’s even a meditation room on the top floor if you would like to take advantage of that!

A Sacred Haven in the Heart of Boudha I have stayed in this hotel three times now, and there is a reason I keep coming back. Since my arrival on April 2nd, 2026, this place has been my true "Refuge" in Nepal. • Location: Perfection. It’s just a 5-minute walk to the Great Stupa (you can see it right from the hotel roof!). Important monasteries like Shechen and White Gompa are also just 5 minutes away. • The Vibe: It feels like family. The service is incredibly warm, and there’s a beautiful living room where you can hide from the city’s hustle and bustle. • Spiritual Practice: There is a dedicated meditation hall inside the hotel. A special highlight is the Tara Puja every Sunday—a powerful and moving experience. • Comfort & Hygiene: This place is spotless. I mean, truly clean. The shower has great water pressure (a rare find!), and the breakfasts are not only delicious but, most importantly, safe and reliable! • Surroundings: You are in the middle of everything with about 500 restaurants nearby, yet the hotel remains a quiet sanctuary. If you are looking for a clean, safe, and spiritually grounded place in Boudha, this is it. Highly recommended!

I have not stayed in a room but otherwise this is a really well-managed, upscale hotel that looks practically European on the inside and has a well-trained, well-mannered staff, excellent cappuccino and good service in the large dining room. Especially after the temporary demise of the neighboring Hyatt behemoth, this should be a go-to alternative or mainstay for anyone that wants to stay comfortably within 3-5 minutes walking to Boudha Stupa. There is also a small Tibetan Buddhist gumpa or temple on the upper storey, open to the public.

This is the best hotel in Nepal! European level! So cozy, clean and nice! After the trekking, it actually seems like a heavenly place! We want to go back there again and again!

Extremely welcoming family owned hotel located in the spiritual side of Kathmandu near the Boudha Stupa among other wonderful Monasteries. Hotel is extremely clean with the most wonderful Host and Hostess you’ll ever find. So much insight and so attentive! Also, great conversationalists! Could not have asked for more!

We so enjoyed the Nepali hospitality at Hotel Butsugen. Located in a walkable neighborhood near the Buddha Stupa, there’s easy access to restaurants, coffee shops, and other essentials when traveling. The bed was very comfortable, the water hot, and the room clean. We really enjoyed breakfast outdoors overlooking the morning flow of the community. The staff is available and attentive and really helped to accommodate our needs. We’re so glad we stayed with Hotel Butsugen.
