Reviews
What happened
- Booking: We reserved four Deluxe Double Rooms with two single beds each.
- Reality: The property gave us much smaller standard rooms instead of the booked deluxe rooms. When we confronted the owner about the discrepancy, he claimed the rooms had already been allocated to someone else.
- Refund discussion: I asked for a refund, but the owner refused, stating that no refunds would be issued and that we would have to stay in the rooms provided.
- Escalation: I warned that I would seek help from Nepal’s tourist police. Shortly afterward, the owner offered to upgrade us to five rooms (more than we booked) and claimed he would provide the “correct” rooms the next day. However, throughout our stay, the promised correct rooms were not provided.
- Family travel impact: Because we were traveling with family and arrived late at night, we did not argue more at the moment, but the experience was distressing and inconvenient.
What went wrong
- Misrepresentation: We prepaid for Deluxe Double Rooms but were assigned significantly smaller rooms.
- Inconsistent commitments: The owner’s promises about refunds and future room allocations were not honored.
- Lack of accountability: There was little to no proactive assistance from the front desk to rectify the situation during our stay.
- Safety and comfort concerns: Switching to undersized rooms at night and repeatedly being told conflicting information affected our comfort and peace of mind.
Tips for future guests
- Confirm room type at check-in: Get a clear, written confirmation of the exact room category and bed configuration you will receive.
- Document discrepancies: Take photos of the room as soon as you enter, noting amenities and bed setup, to support any refund or comp claims.
- Request a manager or higher authority: If the front desk cannot resolve, ask for a supervisor or contact the property owner directly (in a calm, documented manner).
- Know the refund policy: Confirm the property’s refund terms before or at check-in, and get them in writing if possible.
- Consider alternative accommodations: Given the repeated issues described, it may be wise to consider other options with transparent policies and verified guest reviews.
Bottom line
This stay was disappointing and stressful due to misrepresentation of the booked room type, unfulfilled refund promises, and inconsistent handling of the situation. If you must book Kailash Kuti Inn, proceed with extreme caution: verify your room type on arrival, insist on written confirmations, and be prepared to escalate if needed.
Note for potential travelers: Based on this experience, I would not recommend booking this property online without thorough verification of room allocation and a robust refund/compensation policy. If you’ve had a different experience, I’d appreciate hearing your perspective to help others make informed decisions.
Food quality is excellent and tastes extremely good. Services are very food. One area of improvement is that the management should serve complimentary buffet breakfast from 7 am (instead of 8 am). There is no lift but stairs are comfortable.
