Hotel Aadam Wilhelmina in Amsterdam

I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights and, unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations.

The problems began at check-in. Despite having contacted the hotel twice in advance and attempting to call immediately upon landing (with no response), the receptionist was rude and confrontational, placing the blame on us instead of offering assistance. This set an unwelcoming tone from the very beginning.

The room itself was not maintained to a satisfactory standard. Bed sheets were not properly clean on arrival and were rarely replaced during the stay. Towels were changed infrequently. The plumbing was problematic, with unpleasant odours and poor drainage. The room was also uncomfortably hot; the fan provided was ineffective, and combined with very thin walls and constant street noise at night, restful sleep was almost impossible.

Most concerning was a security incident one evening around 10pm, when someone was testing the locks on multiple doors in the hallway, including ours. It was very unsettling. When we called reception to report this, staff dismissed the matter as a “mistake” and offered no reassurance or follow-up, which left us feeling unsafe.

Overall, this property failed on both comfort and service. Between the unprofessional reception, poor room standards, lack of safety response, and excessive noise, I could not recommend this hotel and would not choose to stay again.

The property overall contains problematic plumbing and construction. The room was poorly set up for a double occupancy and the bathroom is definitely in need of engineering and architectural upgrades.
