I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Nicolaas Witsen from 18–20 February and couldn’t fault it.

The hotel is very modern, spotlessly clean, and extremely comfortable. The bed was excellent and I had a great night’s sleep, which made a big difference after busy days exploring the city. The whole place feels well thought out and calm.

All of the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, always happy to help and making the stay feel relaxed and easy. The bar area was also a real highlight — a lovely space to sit in the evening and enjoy a drink after a day out.

The location is ideal: close to transport links and within a pleasant walking distance of the main attractions, which made getting around Amsterdam simple and enjoyable.

I’d happily stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

Perfect romantic getaway in Amsterdam!
My girlfriend and I just spent two wonderful nights (February 18-20) at Hotel Nicolaas Witsen, and it was everything we hoped for and more! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly—they made us feel so welcome and were always ready with tips, directions, or just a smile.
The hotel itself is beautifully modern: our room was spotless, stylishly decorated, and had absolutely everything we needed. Super comfortable bed, great TV, coffee/tea facilities, in-room safe, handy USB wall plugs everywhere (a lifesaver for charging!), even a Bluetooth speaker, and fast free WiFi that worked perfectly throughout. No complaints at all—everything was clean, quiet, and just right for a cozy couples’ escape.
Location-wise, it’s brilliantly placed—easy access to trams and public transport to reach all the main sights quickly, yet on a peaceful street away from the nonstop hustle. We loved how convenient it was without feeling right in the tourist chaos.
If you’re looking for a modern, welcoming spot in Amsterdam that’s great value and feels special, this is it. We can’t recommend Hotel Nicolaas Witsen enough—thank you to the amazing team for making our short trip unforgettable! We’ll definitely be back.

The location is just perfect.
Staff is amazing, the very kind lady explained the places to visit in the city in detail and all the staff was so nice and helpful.
Rooms are clean. 10/10
The two negative points are: 1- the room is really not well isolated we could hear the neighbours talking and walking. 2- The hotel doesn’t provide sleepers.
It’s a very good hotel overall !

Great boutique hotel!!!! The staff were all fantastic! They made me feel welcome. I got the best advice for places to eat and places to go for gin tastings!!! The room was spotless and made up when I requested cleaning. Loved the breakfasts! The eggs were made to order by the sweetest chef in the business. The gin and tonics at the bar were great too. Ask for the Old Genever.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel! The rooms are compact but that's no surprise in Amsterdam. There is still ample storage and we really appreciated having the little fridge. Our room had a giant window that could open so the room never felt stuffy. The bed, duvet and pillows were INCREDIBLY comfortable and just what we needed after a long journey to the city. As others have reviewed, it was very quiet at night. The location is great, it's still close enough to all the touristy stuff that we could walk everywhere. All the staff were very friendly and overall it was a really pleasant experience. We can't wait to come back!

Definitely a 3 star hotel. The rooms reminded me of hostels to be honest and I feel like there were better hostels out there for a fraction of the price. The staff was hospitable, accommodating most needs.
My biggest issue was the heater in our room was not consistent. And considering Amsterdam is quite cold in the winter the room would be freezing at almost all times of the day.
Location is excellent for tourist excursions and quite close to central Amsterdam.

The hotel is located within walking distance of several attractions and near tram lines for more distant trips. Front desk service was pleasant and the room was kept clean during our stay. The room itself was incredibly small and the beds were lumpy. To get to the rooms there's a choice of an extremely small elevator or the classic near-vertical Dutch stairway. For some reason the key is attached to a very large heavy key fob, something you'd expect to see on a restroom key so it won't be taken by accident. The hotel was a little less expensive than others in the area so perhaps the negatives are outweighed by price.

The Hotel was exactly what I hoped for: Clean, friendly, quiet, reasonably priced, and unpretentious.
And in the morning, one is welcomed to a hearty breakfast—-even if your socks don’t match :-)
