I recently stayed at Golden Star Beach Hotel Negombo and had a pleasant experience overall. We checked in quite late at night, but the staff was extremely helpful and welcoming, making the process smooth and hassle-free. The rooms were decent, clean, and comfortable, which made for a relaxing stay. A special mention goes to Shehan from the front office, who was incredibly helpful and attentive throughout. His professionalism and friendly attitude really stood out and added to the positive experience. Overall, this hotel offers great value for money, with a team that genuinely cares about their guests. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable stay in Negombo.

Great little hotel for a 2 day stay before leaving Sri Lanka. Right on the beach, lovely swimming pool, good toiletries, good buffet breakfast. I'd stay again.

We stayed at Golden Star Beach Resort for two nights at the beginning of our trip and one night at the end, and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. There was almost no water pressure in the shower — it was impossible to properly wash your hair. The air conditioning made a very sharp, disturbing noise throughout the night. The hotel feels very outdated and poorly maintained overall. The reception staff were not friendly and communication was very poor. Although our booking was correctly and timely confirmed by our tour operator for a twin room with sea view, they acted as if they were unaware of it. There was no sense of responsibility or willingness to help. The first room we were given was slightly better, but still far from acceptable. The breakfast was okay, with a good buffet selection. On our first evening, our tour operator had offered us a seafood menu, and this was reconfirmed that same evening. However, it still appeared on our bill, which was very disappointing and unprofessional. I would not recommend this hotel, especially not to start or end your trip here. It certainly does not leave a good impression

The setting is incredible. Right on the beach, the view from our room was spectacular, it has a decent pool, and there is a beach bar for sundowners a few steps away. However, room was poorly maintained. Air con remote didn’t seem to work and it was freezing overnight - other guests had the same problem. Shower was cold. Patio doors didn’t lock. It was fine for a stopover for a single night, but wouldn’t want to stay for longer.

There is a lot of positives about the hotel, we had a good view of the sea, the pool is great, the staff friendly and helpful and the breakfast very good. Its the little things that annoy, poor maintemce meaning the sliding balcony doors dont slide, sockets that didn't work and the lack of a hair dryer - there was one for the whole hotel available in reception.

Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. We stayed for one night on a half-board basis, and the food was nothing short of terrible. The lunch was a complete letdown—bland, unappetizing, and lacking variety. To make matters worse, the only dessert option was a poorly made fruit salad, which did nothing to redeem the meal. The overall quality of the food was far below expectations, making our stay even more unpleasant. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a satisfying dining experience.

Hotel itself from the street is looking good. Rooms could do with an update. Staff is really friendly and helpfull. Next to the sea which is quite handy as only 2min walk and swimming in the sea. Swimming poole is clean. All good. Need to chech air con as some rooms it did not work. Overall good location

Horrid hotel experience. I’ve stayed in my poor hotels over the years and this was truly awful. Unless there are two Golden Star hotels in Negombo this doesn’t remotely resemble the photos. We arrived to find enormous cockroaches in the bathroom. The mattresses are terrible. I am now in bed at 01:30am with a group of very loud men shouting and singing (and drumming) in the pool and in the corridors. There are at least 20 of them. They have banged our door very loudly around ten times (I lost count) and they tried our door handle twice which is very scary if they’re as drunk as they sound. We called reception who clearly could not control these men. My husband went down to reception and they said they couldn’t reach the manager (I understand he/she eventually came). Our two children were woken up and scared. It went on for 2 hours. The beach is disgusting - full of rubbish and smells. Not necessarily the hotel’s fault but the location. There is a smell of sewage hanging around the place. Very few staff speak English. The receptionist who welcomed us spoke English but no one else did including in the restaurant or during the night when we were struggling with the noise. I had wanted to believe the good reviews and ignore the bad ones avoid but I’m afraid the bad ones are accurate. Please stay elsewhere.

Just returned home from a 23 night stay at this hotel in room 127, whilst visiting friends. From the outset staff could not have been more helpful, informative or friendly. A special thanks to Steve (owner) Greta (Housekeeping Manager) and Angela (Front Office Manager). The room was enormous, extremely well appointed, toiletries, water, tea coffee, kettle, fridge / freezer, free safe in reception. The room was 30 seconds from beach, with the pool right outside the patio doors also, with plenty of sun beds. The room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and sheets. Breakfast was exceedingly good with a massive choice of food to suit all palates with cooking stations also. The pool was very clean, being managed each day. A fantastic hotel, very well located on the beach. All of the staff are extremely, helpful, energetic, willing to help and please, a truly magnificent team. Thank you very much for a great holiday. We just booked 1 night as it was close to the airport to recover from the flight before starting our tour. It is not expensive at all so your expectation should not be too high. Room was comfortable with nice balcony and there was a pool and access to the beach. Had a Sri Lankan curry lunch buffet when we arrived Breakfast was also included and nice fruit and also local food on offer. Slightly annoying as we were the only ones there as it was early and 7 staff all standing in the corner chatting - we had to go over and ask if we could have some tea and coffee - which is surely a basic to offer the minute guests sit down Staff on reception not that efficient so don't expect a speedy checkout Adequate for the price
