Sole Luna Resort & Spa in Tangalle

Big room, that’s about it. Bad eggy smell in the bathroom. Only one person working, felt like an abandoned ghost hotel. No towels in the room, had to ask for it. AC very old, noisy and not cooling down the room.

My wife and I were having an incredible trip in Sri Lanka — until we checked into Sole Luna. From start to finish, this stay was an absolute nightmare.

When we entered the room, it was clearly not cleaned or prepared. The dustbin had dirt inside and wasn’t even lined. There was an empty drink bottle left on the floor. Completely unacceptable.

We stepped out briefly to the beach, and when we returned in the evening, we were greeted in the bathroom by not one, but TWO cockroaches.

To report this, I had to physically go downstairs because:
• There is no phone in the room
• There is no lift/elevator, despite this supposedly being a 4-star hotel

The counter staff was rude and dismissive, initially telling my wife that all rooms were booked and that changing rooms was not possible. Only when I insisted on speaking to a manager did his tone suddenly change and we were offered a “better” room.

The “better” room was also questionable. The dustbin again wasn’t lined, and the sink had no stopper. When I asked about it, I was told, “Not possible.” Incredible service. Perhaps this is also how the cockroaches are getting around.

We had to move rooms ourselves, dragging our luggage, while two staff members stood outside watching us without offering any help. Not even a token gesture. They seemed more annoyed that they had to “prepare” another room — though given the cleanliness standards, I’m not sure what preparing even means here.

What shocked me the most was the complete apathy. No apology. No concern. No accountability. Just indifference.

This experience was deeply disappointing, especially in Sri Lanka, where we’ve otherwise encountered warm, attentive service everywhere else. Sole Luna was the low point of our entire trip.

Avoid.

Not recommending this hotel to anyone. The entire hotel is run by 4 staff members only who are very unfriendly and rude and at night specially there’s no staff to be found. No Food or water to be served. Staff treats everyone like garbage. Bad room service. The room facilitates aren’t good at all. We have to ask for everything. The very first time I saw a hotel charging for service charge just for giving us some plates when there’s No F&B. No wonder why people doesn’t stay here. Hotel is Very much into money. Have to highlight “siriwardana” the reception manager.. he doesn’t even care what we have to say. No facility to pay by card or money transfer which they said we can but can’t. They charged us saying late check out for leaving some bags at the property when they said it’s okay. If they informed us earlier we could have taken everything. PLEASE DON’T BOOK THIS HOTEL.
