Hôtel du Port in Lausanne

Lausanne was the ninth stop in our European vacation and we stayed at Hôtel du Port for two nights. The hotel was right next to the lake and we had a view to the lake from our room. The room was the largest of all hotel rooms we had throughout our vacation, and one of the cheapest. It had an area that was the "bedroom" and another area that was like a lounge. These two were separated by a waist-high wall. The hotel was clearly an older hotel... and the furniture reflected that. Although the room was nothing fancy, it was comfortable enough. Strangely, breakfast did not include any hot food at all -- only cold meats, fruits, etc. were on offer. We did not experience that at any other hotel restaurant anywhere in Europe. I would not call the restaurant staff unfriendly, but they were also not really friendly. You get the feeling that they are there to do a job they don't really like. The city of Lausanne had an overall feeling of being neglected and unloved. Not dilapidated, but also nothing to get excited about. And driving in Lausanne was terrible -- it got on both our nerves. So much so that we ended up shouting at each other... which is something that we'd rarely done in our 45 years of marriage. Needless to say, Lausanne will never, ever see us again!

Stayed here whilst on business and the location is fantastic, this is not a major hotel chain so I didn't expect the usual facilities, like gym etc, but the room was clean and breakfast was good. I would stay again.
