Maekok River Village in Mae Ai

We had 3 beautiful nights in this lovely place. The room - with a beautiful balcony - was lovely, clean and spacious. The staff were delightful. We did a fun cookery course with the delightful Aree and taking what we learned back to the UK. Great place to relax and chill out!

This is a beautiful hotel along the western Thai border, in a stunning setting along the Maekok River with mountains off in the distance. We arrived here just after a cycling accident knocked my husband off his bike for a few days. The owners and staff could not have been kinder or more helpful as he rested and began to heal in our lovely garden bungalow with A/C. It was perfectly appointed with lovely linens, coffee/tea, and a comfortable bed. They delivered a beautiful breakfast tray to our room for him, and kept us well stocked with bottled water, and fresh fruit during our stay. Honestly, we can't thank them enough for their kindness - our only regret is that we were not able to take advantage of the many activities and cultural experiences available at the hotel. If you long to visit, see, and learn about the real Northern Thailand, this is a fabulous base from which to do that. It is well worth spending several days here during any trip to beautiful Thailand.

Excellent resort situated in a beautiful garden. We booked a well equipped and maintained bungalow, furnished in style. The staff was very friendly and helpful and they all spoke English very well. If we visit the area again we know where to stay

I wouldn’t think this were just a 2-star. Lovely grounds, good staff, fine breakfast with the fluffiest omelette I’ve ever eaten. Peaceful environment clean rooms and truly lovely decor and design throughout the property. Fresh plants everywhere and you can tell someone has a professional design eye.

We fancied a trip to north Thailand after visiting Bangkok, and before travelling to the south of the country. So apart from the obvious Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, we were recommended this place by a friend. It was amazing! The resort has beautiful grounds and the accommodation, rustic and very clean. The people who worked here were so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. There are small local shops providing coffee and lunch/dinner but admittedly, we stayed on site as the food was so good, including their local northern Thai cuisine. Delicious! There was also a small pool and bar. I booked a massage (in the room) and Ting was brilliant - I would highly recommend. The resort also provided trips with their own instructors which again, were excellent and highly recommended. We kept our plans fluid as happy to fit in with what the staff suggested. The resort is also home to an education centre where a number of international students are hosted. We felt privileged to have spent some time with the owners, Bryan and Rosie, and therefore found out about the ethos surrounding the resort and their passion for education - not only in welcoming international students with educational activities on site, but in supporting and developing the local communities (the students were helping to build a nursery school and were hands on with building the foundations and making the bricks too!) Bryan and Rosie have also supported a number of local initiatives including building a small school for local hill tribe children who were not able to get to school due to the distance required to travel. Overall, a must visit place but be prepared for the wonderful noise of teenagers enjoying themselves and laughing whilst they practice kayaking skills in the pond before they venture out onto the river: it provided a source of entertainment for my husband and I during breakfast

Staying at Maekok River was fantastic. Wonderful service, delicious food, clean and beautifully presented rooms with gorgeous flowers and plants throughout. The pool was a haven for relaxing and massages are done in your room for extra comfort! There are many activities available including hiking, markets, temples, river trips and cooking classes. The surround is stunning and the husband and wife owners are warm and treat you like family.

This hotel offers lovely rooms spread on the riverside. It also serves as an outdoor educational center. The restaurant offers a meal with a view of the river. We only had a small dinner and breakfast, both very good. It took me some time to understand how to use hot water in the shower, but it tells more about me than about the hotel... there is a lovely pool we didn't have time to use.

Had a delightful 3 days at this resort recently….the setting is terrific and the service was great. Also the food for both breakfast and dinner was excellent. The only drawback was the cottages….they are in great need of upgrades….plenty of room but also many holes that allow insects and other critters to enter easily. You can also hear your neighbor too easily. I would definitely return here!

The resort cannot be faulted - clean, well maintained, courteous and friendly staff, and good local and European food. Beautiful, well equipped rooms with great views. Best of all, the staff and owners are happy to advise on and arrange tours, personalised for you. Ask for a Pavarotti in the bar and get a large Singha beer!! The area around Thaton has a rich cultural history, and this resort is the ideal place from which to explore. The region also offers rivers and mountains and caves, so if your inclinations are towards physical activity rather than cultural experiences, you have the choice. There is an associated activity centre for school kids, which adds an extra layer of enjoyment if you enjoy the occasional sound of kids enjoying themselves. And finally, some of the cash flow from the resort is devoted to improving the educational opportunities for local kids. What is there not to like!

A large hotel complex near the Maekok River with extensive grounds, rooms are spread around the grounds. Room had A/C, fridge, hairdryer, tea and coffee. Shower room had a good supply of hot water. Big restaurant with good food, good breakfast with plenty of choice.
