- 1. There was no wifi in the rooms (only at the reception / restaurant) - which is pointless if you're a traveller without data 2. It was chilly at night and they didn't have warmer blankets - I got told that it is summer and they don't keep the warmer blankets on hand 3. the slippers that I was given was dirty / had spots or marks on them 4. Parking spaces are limited (and blocked by a trailer) 5. There was only 1 type of breakfast

I have stayed at the samira many times love it, the location because you get amazing views and a lovely breeze. Even though the rooms maybe slightly dated they are spotlessly clean as is the whole hotel, the staff are amazing and cannot do enough for you, bar food is great, the pool area compromising of a baby pool connected to a large pool with plenty of sun loungers, a pool table and table tennis. A very relaxing chilled atmosphere would recommend to anyone.

After spending the last two years taking our main two weeks holiday in Padstow, we thought we'd travel back to Turkey after a break of several years. Looking through the Thomas Cook website, we found a number of hotels in a little place called Kalkan, as we were trying to avoid the more busier and well known holiday spots.
A quick Google/Trip Advisor check revealed it to be spookily similar in many respects to Padstow - lovely harbour, bit exclusive, slightly upmarket....and steep. Finally agreed on the Samira Resort, and the following morning marched into the local TC branch to book it.
Most of the recent reviews here already cover the main points of what I was going to say, so rather than repeating them, I'll leave you to read through, and focus on what I think my fellow reviewers have missed.
We stayed in the apartments, as we prefer to self cater and explore at our leisure, so our main concern was finding the nearest grocery shops for essentials. We soon located the three most local of these within a five minute walk, across the bridge over the main road, turning right and walking past the bus station to the road which curves all the way to the harbour. The nearest is a BIM, which is similar to an ALDI back home, and apparently owned by Erdogan's family. As you would expect, it does not sell alcohol. No problem, a few hundred yards further down is a MIGROS, which does. If you haven't been to Turkey for some time, I should point out that the prices are much higher as they've been effectively fixed since about 2013. Efes is about 6TL (about £1.50 as I type)whilst my favourite Raki is now a ridiculous price, and has probably achieved the goal of making it too expensive for most Turks, and us poorer Brits!
You'll need to stock up on far more water than you'd probably anticipate, and fortunately this is cheap, at roughly a quid for a large 5 Litre bottle. It's amazing how much you actually use, so I'd advise stocking up and getting a taxi back up to the hotel.
Milk is Sut, not Ayran, as I found out when I bought the latter and put it in my morning coffee. Ayran is the Turks second favourite drink, and is essentially watered down yogurt with a bit of salt added. By the end of the two weeks I'd developed a taste for it, with a bit of sugar added.
We did try one of the TC trips to Patara Beach. I've already reviewed this, but only add that if you're thinking of exploring the immediate region, do so by using the bus station across the road, as this is a much cheaper way of doing so. As an example, an evening bus trip to KAS cost us the total princely sum of £6 return...bargain.. and rather cheaper than the quoted TC trip.
Talking of KAS, an absolute must. Smaller version of Kalkan, but lots of little cafes and bars to choose from, without the silly prices.
And don't bother changing loads of sterling before going, as there's no shortage of places offering a sensible exchange rate.
Overall, brilliant holiday, at a lovely hotel, that would be even lovelier if it was located nearer to the harbour.
Would we go back to the Samira? Pricewise, hard to beat, so I suppose the answer would be, most probably.
Last couple of points, and for the benefit of the owners. Only once during the two weeks did any of the owners' family acknowledge that we were there. Seriously need to address this, especially in light of the issues within Turkey. Also, PLEASE take time to add proper comments or none at all. Every comment added is identical. Speaks volumes.

First time here and I'm sure I'll be back. You can have rooms or, as we have, a small apartment, and ours overlooks the sea. The room may be a little tired, nothing that would put me off, but it's a good size and very clean.
The pool is the best around, and the bar area great, especially the staff, who are very friendly and look after you well. Lunchtime food is good generally, although the pizzas aren't nearly as good as you can get in town from places that make them fresh, but there is a large selection that will cater for most tastes.
The Samira is up the hill, so is breezier and cooler than town, which is a 10 minute walk downhill. Get a taxi back, which at the moment is only £2 and we'll worth the price considering the steep walk upwards you'd otherwise have to do.

Got back today. Some staff are more helpful than others. Night staff is rude and a bully. He called a resident “fat” and then didn’t understand why she was upset. Charge you for water and drinks. Even bed and breakfast does not include any drinks. Everything is chargeable.
Rooms are not cleaned everyday. Food is boring and same everyday.
Staff don’t speak English and fail to understand basic communication. They use Google translation.
First Aid box has some emergency items missing! It’s a joke, not worth paying for at all! Avoid, avoid, avoid.

We have been to the Samira about 8 times now. Cleaning of our rooms could have been better this time. They have always been good in the past. We were told that was down to staff shortages. Otherwise a very nice Holliday. Would go back again.
