B+B Edinburgh in Edinburgh

I had to cancel my trip to Edinburgh at the last minute due to a medical emergency in my family, and as a result I couldn’t use my two reservations at B+B Edinburgh. To get reimbursed by my travel insurance, I simply needed a basic “no-show” confirmation from the hotel — nothing more, no refund, no compensation.

Unfortunately, despite all my proofs that I never travelled (airline no-show confirmation, bank statements showing I stayed in Belgium, medical documents), the hotel has repeatedly refused to provide this very simple document. My travel agent even informed me that the hotel claimed I had stayed there, which is untrue. Because of that, my insurance file cannot be completed.

I am extremely disappointed by the way the hotel handled the situation. When a hotel is unable or unwilling to confirm something as basic as the fact that a guest never checked in — especially when the guest can clearly prove it — it makes me worry that the quality of their services might be at the same level as this refusal.

This whole experience has been unnecessarily stressful, and I hope it helps others be aware of what to expect.
