Absolutely amazing expetience, loved staff, loved beds, love the atmosphere and omg the location unbeatable. The best hostel we have stayed in.

POSITIVES: The location is perfect, situated close to Waverly station (bus to/from airport) and the Castle. The pub downstairs is awesome. Staff was nice enough. The breakfast was solid enough, with toast/jam/nutella/PB/cereal and some fruit (all DIY style).

NEGATIVES: The access to the hostel is through a seedy narrow spray-painted corridor behind a pub that looks...well, dangerous...and then up two or three storeys, of course without elevator. Furthermore, they changed my reservation from 4 bed room to 6 bed room, only a week in advance, without any recourse (gave me 1 night free, which I didn't need, and it was too late to cancel my reservation and make other booking arrangements). As a result, the room was extremely cramped. Every day there were 5 different other people, but there were not even any lockers in the room to safely store your belongings!!! The bed was a wonky metal-tube bunk bed, when one person moved, so did the whole bed, and the mattrace was quite uncomfortable. I'm not saying it was all terrible, I'm just saying it was very very basic, not comfortable at all and something I would expect in a developing country or in the countryside, not right next to the Edinburgh Castle.

stayed a total of 3 nights at this hostel, it was clean, well looked after with spacious rooms. The location of the hostel was ideal with the main station being across the road and most attractions being a short walk away. The stairs we read about in the reviews weren’t bad at all as we expected much worse, just a little steep but nothing major. Only negative was the showers which lacked some water pressure but apart from that a really good stay!

I love this place - it's small, clean, quiet and has very friendly staff. But best of all it has 2 women's dorms, so it's a lovely place to stay as a solo female traveller. They don't organise pub crawls, and the lighting in communal areas is low from 12am. So it's very calm and chilled. There's are plenty of 'party hostels ' in Edinburgh, but I go there to visit family and need to rest at nights. So it's just perfect. Rates are good, especially as it's so clean, and it's less than 5 minutes walk from the station exit to the hostel door (3 flights of stairs up though!) So it's very practical. Also pretty much every bus route in Edinburgh can be reached in 5-10 minutes, from princes Street. Also they're very good at leaving spare dry food in clearly marked baskets - so you don't need to buy a whole bag of pasta, rice, or soy sauce when you want to cook. Or there might be cereal to use up. I like that attitude to waste prevention.

No lift to the upper floors is an issue. Bathroom shared was inconvenient because i go th Bathroom at least twice.
However, Location is excellent and the staff are super helpful. They responded immediately.

This is the best location for the price in Edinburgh. The stairs to the hostel are no joke and that was the only drawback for us. But it was worth it!

I was staying somewhere else first but tgat place was horrible.
This hotel was great. Amazing vibe, clean, soft bed, quiet and modern. The receptionist was also really kind and friendly. I will definitely come again !

This was absolutely the WORST hostel I've ever stayed in. I liked the reviews saying that it was quiet, and that was very true. But a quiet atmosphere does NOT make up for the absolutely rancid smell of the place. It was SO unpleasant and unbearable. The staff members were also terribly unfriendly. I felt like an unwelcome guest in a place that didn't smell like it should be taking in any guests anyway. If I could go back, I would definitely stay in any other hostel in Edinburgh other than this one. My experience with this place was abominable.

Lovely food, great atmosphere, sweet and sour chicken was delicious and good portion sizes for the price, had to wait a little while to order but it was very busy and we got time to practice to chopsticks. Very happy and full :)

Hot and sour soup was smelly, staff was not very kind nor attentive, and the food was waaay too overpriced. Had much better takeaway food for half the price. Go somewhere else in the area...

Disgustingly dirty which makes me doubt the hygiene of the kitchen. Needs a good deep cleaning or two. Waiters hardly speak english, are not helpful and that was established on at least 3 visits. Saving grace is the food which is delicious. Please train your staff and clean the hall!!!

Hmmmm! Very disappointing. Starter to share £7.80 each!! Minimum of two - consisted of per person 1 pork rib, 1 prawn toast, 1 spring roll, & 1 dim sum, oh & not forgetting the "crispy seaweed" . Not worth the price per head. Main course noodles were not cooked & very bland albeit with a taste a celery. Waiters didn't even ask if everything ok. As for the "owner", she was asleep behind the bar! Classy!!
21.12.2017 Lindz
One of the best for Dim Sum in Edinburgh. All the classics are there. I tried the lunch buffet one time out of curiosity, and it's good, but it's nothing compared to the dim sum entrees or the made to order a la carte dishes. Two can eat and be plenty satisfied for 25-35.

Nice and clean, good layout inside. Big letdown is the lack of a ramp for access. I know there are other Costa stores within the Waverley Mall but the street level one has lots of steps. I'm sure there used to be a ramp access but not anymore.

Nice coffee and quick bites.situated on the top floor of Waverley mall.
