Nostalgia DS Hotel in Da Nang

A dated hotel in a crappy location in a squalid and trash-strewn neighborhood. Rooms were cleaned ok but furniture and towels were disgustingly stained. The neighboring school is loud with drumming and screaming from early morning on some days. Should have never been listed in Agoda, but is listed under at least 2 different names in order to be confused with much better reviewed hotels, leading to my booking screwup. The epitome of communist luxury. Couldn’t wait to check out! Avoid.

have booked this hotel more than 10 times in the past because I also work as a travel agent and often bring guests from my country. This time, I booked it for my own family, expecting the same quality as before. Unfortunately, this stay was very disappointing.

When my family first arrived, the check-in was fine and the room seemed clean. However, after two days my mother told me that the towels had not been changed since check-in. I was surprised because the room was being cleaned every day. When we asked the reception, they said it was because the “Do Not Disturb” sign was on the door, but that wasn’t the case during the two days when the cleaners entered.

Then a storm came to Da Nang, and the elevator stopped working. My grandparents are 76 years old and we were on the 6th floor. They could not walk up the stairs, so they had to wait in the lobby for hours. When I asked the staff to fix the elevator, they said it was a government issue and they couldn’t help. I asked for another solution, like moving us to a lower floor, but the staff said we had to pay extra for a different room, even though the situation wasn’t our fault.

We eventually had to help my grandparents slowly walk upstairs, resting on chairs along the way. On top of that, the hot water stopped working for three days. Each day, the staff told us to wait until the next day because they didn’t have the parts to fix it, and they couldn’t say when it would be repaired.

We decided to check out three days earlier than planned because we didn’t want to keep my family in such uncomfortable conditions. To make things worse, at checkout they even charged us 20,000 VND for two bottles of water in the room.

Overall, the staff showed very little care for their customers, and the service was far below expectations. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially for families or elderly guests. We moved to another hotel afterward, and it had everything working properly.

Service is terrible, the only thing that the receptionist knows to say is if you are going check out! They asked you it every day. The cleanliness of the room is well below what I expected. The bed was a king size, but the hotel doesn't have the correct size of bed lines, and because of this, every day, I woke up without line sleeping in the mattress
