A traditional European-style hotel right by the lake. The lakeside view room is fantastic, with a huge balcony overlooking the entire lake. The room comes with plenty of amenities, like a coffee machine, chocolates, and more. We really enjoyed our stay!
Definitely drop by their restaurant, Zum Salzbaron, as they serve delicious grilled char. The fish was extremely fresh and cooked to perfection. The draft beer here is pretty good too.

Great location, lovely ambiance, and the food was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend! If you're planning a trip to Hallstatt, I strongly suggest staying at this hotel. Even if you can't get a room, definitely come here for dinner – it's a must-try!

Our family of five stopped at Seehotel Grüner Baum immediately upon arriving in Hallstatt, hoping for a bite to eat. Though they were busy, the staff was incredibly accommodating—they offered us a reservation for an hour later, which gave us the perfect opportunity to explore the village before dinner.
For starters, my wife and I shared the Maroni-Schaumsuppe (chestnut foam soup) and the Kürbis-Cremesuppe (pumpkin cream soup). Both were rich, seasonal, and beautifully prepared. For my main, I ordered the Quellwasser Saibling—spring water char freshly caught from the Salzkammergut lakes. The fish was perfectly prepared and incredibly fresh.
The waitstaff were attentive throughout our meal, and the views of Lake Hallstatt made for a memorable dining experience. A wonderful spot for families visiting this beautiful corner of Austria.

I only ate at the restaurant and did not stay at the hotel, but I would not be surprised if the hotel itself is of as good a quality as the restaurant. It's very classy for a small town, a change in atmosphere from the cozier or homier places around the city square that do occasionally feel a bit touristy.
The staff were pleasant and friendly, and it seemed they were eager to make room for customers who did not have a reservation. The dining room was elegant almost as if in Vienna, and every course of the meal down to the Esterhazy torte was fresh and very tasty. Since it was raining that night, there was unfortunately no outdoor seating, but that would have been excellent, too, as it's right by the lake.
It is quite pricy compared to other options in this charming little town, but they do stay open later than most, and you will get what you pay for in quality and setting.

Room- the rooms & bath is spacious. All the toiletries are provided in room. Bath robes, room slippers & more is provided in the room. We booked a prestige double room with lake view which is on the top floor. 2 issues with this- 1) the elevator goes only upto 3rd floor so you have to take stairs with your luggage on 4th floor. 2) the ceiling is slanted as its attic.
The room has a window (no balcony) which has the view of the church which is located just besides the hotel & view of the lake.
Very old property, maintained well.
Breakfast- 2/5, really limited spread/variety. Also no made to order options. Breakfast time is only a 2 hour window. Very mediocre breakfast & not expected from a 4 star property. Great view from the restaurant though. You can reserve the restaurant for dinner, but the guests staying with the hotel are given preference without reservations.

It has lake in the front, main center at the back. So stepping out of hotel you step inside the town center. Centrally located to all the viewpoints.

Sauna & steam available on the 4th floor for no extra charge. Steam wasnt working when we visited.
No room upgrades, late checkout offered only by 30 mins.

Central location in Hallstatt, right outside the central square, next door to the church ~ Booked a lake view room, the room is quite large, the facilities are quite complete, and it is equipped with a Dyson fan in August ~ The balcony is a great place to look at the lake, but the summer sun is still quite scorching

The hotel has a good appearance and a first-class location. The lake view room has a large terrace which is very good👍. However, since the hotel building itself is more than 500 years old, it is impossible to install air conditioning, only a Dyson fan. The room is still very hot in the summer of July-August, but it is very comfortable on the terrace. The facilities and decorations in the room are old-fashioned and outdated, which does not match the price. The food in the restaurant is also average. In short, it is the location that sells.
