Reviews
Our room was lovely, and recently renovated but the hotel was unfinished, communal areas incomplete, you have to enter through a side entrance down some rickety temporary steps. The builders woke us up at 8am which may not be early for some but we ahd been travelling and were hoping for a lie in which we didnt get due to this. Had we have known the hotel was under construction when we booked, we would have gone elsewhere.
Once the refurbishment is done, im sure this hotel will be lovely, but right now it is an unadvertised construction site
Wi-Fi speeds were around 2.7 MB/s download and 1.6 MB/s upload.
Sufficient parking spaces.
Funny enough, I noticed that the room similar to the "Gresham Belson Brussels". I mean same power outlets, same lighting and mirror design. Same dustbin. Same side tables. Same bathroom tiles.
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent stay at the Holiday Inn Gent Expo. My experience was far below the acceptable standards of the IHG brand, characterized by a lack of transparency and substandard living conditions.
Undisclosed Renovations and Poor Air Quality
Upon arrival, it became immediately apparent that the hotel is undergoing extensive renovations. This was never disclosed at the time of booking. The entire property was filled with a pungent, biting odor of construction chemicals and paint. To make matters worse, the air conditioning in my assigned room was completely non-functional. The combination of zero ventilation and toxic fumes made the air quality in the room nearly unbearable.
Inconsistent and Unhelpful Front Desk Service
When I requested a room change due to these health and comfort concerns, the front desk staff initially refused, claiming the hotel was at full capacity and insisting that I "just deal with it" for the night. It is fundamentally unreasonable to sell a room with known equipment failures and hazardous air quality to a guest.
After nearly an hour of exhausting negotiation and persistence on my part, a room suddenly became available. This inconsistency in communication—miraculously finding a room after claiming to be full—was both unprofessional and dishonest.
Disturbed Rest
The ordeal did not end there. Despite a late night dealing with room issues, I was abruptly woken up at 8:00 AM by loud drilling and construction noise directly outside my room.
Conclusion
Selling rooms that are clearly unfit for habitation while failing to warn guests about active renovations is deceptive. The lack of empathy from the staff and the physical discomfort of the environment made this a truly terrible experience. I would not recommend this hotel until they have completed their construction and retrained their front desk team in basic customer service and honesty.
Adding: Rooms are stone cold. The AC is turned to cooling mode while outside is 10 C. They will give you mobile electric heaters if you ask. 170 euros per night by the way.
When going to my room on the second floor realised there is renovations going on and the view is of a digger as the picture shows
Also this is a family room and very small for four people with only two cups and two towels
During the night the aircon broke down so we had to open the window as it was very hot and crowded. We asked for a fan but they said non available even though i explain it was extremely hot, they suggested to open the window which we did. However the noise from outside was bad but we had no other option at 3 am my kids woke up all bitten and we spent one hour killing mosquitos and the hotel gave me mosquito spray
Next dat we were all covered in mosquito bites. We checked out and a new receptionist let us know we had been overcharged with city taxes and gave us the money back. to be honest when checking out I wad expecting at least an apology or breakfast or even free parking considering how hellish our stay was . Even an apology would have made a difference
Also the hotel is like 20 minutes from center so if u come here be ready to pay extra for parking or pay public transportation of 6 euros return ticket per person
Very disappointed. The worse experience. Mosquitos nets should be a must
Need to be careful when driving into that expo , ikea and the hotel zone as they located along with each others and shared the same directory board which the indicator bit small you might miss the hotel car park entrance
The front staff he is super friendly and helpful 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I would say the amenities is worth for the price 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
