Reviews
Basic amenities were missing — no shampoo and no complimentary drinking water in the room — which is unacceptable at this level. The equipment is outdated, the interior feels worn, and we repeatedly had problems with non-working room keys.
The organisation and communication were extremely poor. We had arranged a Thai massage in advance, but our confirmed time slot was given to another guest without informing us, so we never received the service. Our messages and calls were ignored, and because we arrived slightly late, the hotel made no effort to assist us or provide dinner options.
Cleanliness was also below standard; I found hair in the bathroom, which is unacceptable.
What was especially disturbing was the lack of respect for guests’ privacy. During our vacation weekend, we were confronted with a police visit, which felt completely inappropriate and very uncomfortable.
Overall, the service, quality, and professionalism are far below expectations. I would strongly recommend choosing another hotel that respects its guests and offers better value for money.
The doors to the apartments close with a bang, which is not good if you have treatment at, for example 8am and you would like to sleep until then. Some people have treatments as early as 6 or 7 am, which is understandable I suppose (we had early treatments too, which is why we would have loved to sleep in when we had a day or two with later treatments). When you close your door, the handle is designed in a way that a loud noise is unavoidable. :( I understand the building is old, but some furniture really needs renovation or even replacement. Mainly the chairs (in the dining hall, for example, some chairs are dangerously shaky, and the threshold with steps at the entrance to the same dining hall ... scary stuff. People were tripping there many times on our watch, this looked quite dangerous!).
Also, we were put in a room that overlooks the main road and THIS IS LOUD. Unless you have your windows closed of course. But since the room had no air conditioner, you have to open the windows when it's hot. And at nighttime, you either don't sleep because of the heat, or, because of the loud noise of the passing by cars if you opt to open the window :( When we asked to maybe be moved to a quieter room, we were told it's 100€ extra, and hardly even possible. This is fixable in two ways in our opinion: either the management should SIGNIFICANTLY lower the prices for the rooms that face the road, or, install air conditioning at least. People come here for treatment and relaxation, and when you sleep poorly at night, well, this is kind of a pointless effort to take care of ones health :( Because sleep matters a great deal. In regards to that - our room was on the 4th floor which means that whenever there was a rainstorm (it happens a lot in that location) you will hear constant lour banging above the windowsill and you cannot do anything about it. Not a cosy, monotonous sound of the rain, but a downright banging. Obviously due to the design of the building in this area.
The food was healthy but sometimes either overcooked/dry or under-cooked. The coffee was honestly horrible. But you can buy a cup from the bar (overpriced, unfortunately, but decent enough). This is very clever of course, to have bad coffee at the dining hall and immediately have a bar right there to charge extra money. People who want decent coffee will have no choice but to buy. Or refrain form coffee for a while, which, let's give it that - is potentially beneficial to one's health :)
Juices offered were clearly mixed with water or on the contrary - too sweet, with a chemical taste. For a facility that takes care of one's health, we expected better.
For a stunning location such as this, and for a place that offers treatments and focuses on healthcare and well-being of the residents, the facilities for handicapped/disabled folks could be seriously improved. For example: the place doesn't offer a car rental, which we were very excited about initially, as we had a day off from treatments and were planning to visit Karlovy Vary. My handicapped husband was told to take a bus to Karlovy Vary and hire a car from there. This is such a wasted opportunity - if Radium Palace, as the biggest spotlight in Jáchymov, offered car rentals and even wheelchair rentals (although wheelchairs should be included in such a price already, in my opinion), this would have attracted a lot of people, specifically disabled ones, who too wish to explore and move around. So yes, we were quite disappointed and ended up not visiting the places we initially wanted. I took a bus alone later, but obviously it was not the same and quite frustrating.
Radium Palace should focus more on perfecting its facilities and possibilities, especially for people with various disabilities.
We went there for a week and were very happy. Hotel is clean and tidy, staff are welcoming, helpful and kind. Treatments are fantastic! We loved radon baths and gas injections most of all. They can offer you a variety of treatments on your choice.
Meals are variable and tasty. Location is very pleasant and in 35 minutes by local bus you can go to Karlovy Vary, enjoying some free time. I recommend it 100%.
Next year we will go there for two weeks.
