Reviews
here my detailed review:
Arrival:
I drove there on saturday (advice to everyone: never arrive on saturday due to severe traffic jams from Albertville to Moutiers). Arrived at 7pm to check in. I think the check in time window (5-7pm and 5-8pm on saturday) is a bit short. The hotel is easy to find in Val Claret and you can park your car temporarily in the front of the hotel to unload.
I booked a spot in the underground parking garage, its a 5min walk from the hotel. Its expensive though (around 85 euros a week).
Staff/Service:
Even though I read a lot here, that people complained that the staff at the reception was rude, I experienced the contrary. The lady at the desk was very welcoming and friendly, also cool to answer any questions I had.
Hotel/Location:
The hotel reminds me more of a hostel. You better not be a little princess or diva, this is no luxury hotel. The reception, couloirs etc. look old and simplistic with no deco or design. For me its no issue though. Its ideal of your goal is just to go skiing and dont dont mind the condition of the place you stay.
The location is the hotel's main strong point: Its right next to the "Tufs" chairlift, you exit the ski locker room and immediately put on your skis and then get to either the Tufs lift or ski through the town to Grand Motte valley station.
Room & costs:
I shared a room with my brother and took the option without cleaning service, no towels, no bed linen. I brought my own bed stuff. Everything of these costs extra on top of the already pretty steep 1850 euros for 6 days.
The room is big enough for 2. Even though advertised for 4, the room would be way too small.
I liked the fact that you could slide a wall through the room to separate the room in 2.
The room was pretty clean, even the bathroom had no dirt spots. Only the windows had some dirt on them but I didnt mind.
The room's furniture though was a bit delapidated and looked like it will fall apart any moment.
During my stay, the nights were all pretty quiet and had no issue with noisy guests or so. Only thing you hear were the snow cats grooming the ski runs at 9:30pm.
On the room there was some signange about the room cleaning rules that are a bit outdated: you dont need to complete a questionnaire anymore.
The AC was great and it never got cold in the room.
Departure:
We cleaned the room the best we could in the morning and checked out at 8:30am. The 300 euro room deposit was fully refunded to us a week later
Verdict: satisfactory
++ location
+ ideal if you want to mainly focus on skiing
+ staff, service
~ room comfort
- costs/value, everything costing extra
- everything inside seems dilapidated
But all of this pales in comparison to the ownership and service. The lobby staff are rude for starters, but much more crucially, everything is designed to make you pay extra at the end. Before checking out of the hotel, bearing in mind this is a hotel, here is what we were asked to do:
- Wipe mirrors and windows
- Wipe down oven and microwave
- Wipe and clean the fridge
- Wipe down all surfaces
- Clean sinks and baths
We were told we could be charged HUNDREDS of euros if we didn't do these things. Utterly ridiculous from a hotel.
If I could give a zero star review I would. Absolutely ridiculous.
Overall, its okay especially if you won’t be spending much time in the room. Location is amazing and great for those in their twenties seeking a budget ski accommodation.
No eggs for breakfast, salad bar often without lettuce and tomatoes.
Food ok. Rooms ok.
*Staff is nice
*The bar is nice and cosy
The Bad:
*At dinner there is a terrible smell of Raclette cheese, that makes it very hard to enjoy any of the average/bad food
*At breakfast the coffee maker ran out of coffee every morning
* the ski room is too small and has only one bench, so putting your ski boots on standing up is the only option.
*The shampoo and soap bottles ran out and where not filled
The ugly:
*The hotel claims to be ski in/out but actually you need to walk about 50m to and from the nearest lift.
All and all, do yourself a favour and go to a better hotel.
