Hotel du Theatre in Lyon

A nice hotel room in the centre of Lyon, staff are friendly and welcoming. Had a nice stay there. Good for location.

Clean room and very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were a good size for French hotel rooms and very clean, but it is an older hotel so some of it seemed like it was probably due for a refresh. There are a lot of stairs, so not The hotel for you if that is a proble. However, the location was perfect for exploring the city on foot, and the staff was extremely helpful.

Great location and very helpful and friendly staff. The rooms were clean and comfortable but the hotel is a little older so it has some character. There were two flights of stairs to get up to the reception desk, so if you have mobility issues this would be challenging. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay.

The hotel's location is ideal, right in the city center and a 5-minute walk from the metro. The airport is a 50-minute train and metro ride away.
The hotel lives up to its 2-star rating. The rooms are dated, and the beds are twins, not doubles. The bathroom only provides soap and shampoo. My room's windows didn't face the theater, but a kindergarten, which is incredibly noisy early in the morning.
A couple of nights' stay is perfectly fine, as long as you don't expect much from the hotel.
If the forecast calls for hot weather, there's no air conditioning.

Absolutely charming hotel in the heart of Lyon

I originally booked one night here and ended up staying three — that says it all.
My room was huge, clean, and had a stunning view of the Lyon theater. The hotel is located right in the heart of the city, yet on a peaceful street just steps from the river and the Old Town. Everything is within walking distance, including public transport and the main train station (about 20 minutes on foot).

The atmosphere is cozy and bright. The lobby is lovely and warm, with the option to have breakfast. Though there’s no elevator (important to know for those who need it), I had no issues going up the stairs with my trolley.

The room had a fan and a small cooling unit that worked perfectly — especially good in the warmer months. And for colder days, there’s a small electric fireplace that adds both warmth and ambiance.

But the real highlight: Marcia at the reception. She truly brings light and energy to the place. Friendly, helpful, always smiling, always available for a chat or a laugh — someone please give this woman a raise! She’s a big part of why my stay was so enjoyable.

One small thing — I had mentioned in advance that I was traveling for my birthday, and unlike many places around the world, there was no welcome note or gesture. Not a big deal, but a small touch like that goes a long way when you’re traveling solo. Still, the vibe and hospitality made up for it.

All in all, this hotel offers excellent value, an unbeatable location, a clean and comfortable space, and a welcoming spirit. I’ll definitely stay here again next time I’m in Lyon.
