B&B HOTEL Chartres Centre Cathédrale in Chartres

Avoid at all costs. Very confused with the 8.2 rating on Hotels.com, please take the negative reviews seriously. From the moment we walked in we thought something wasn’t quite right as there was no one on reception to open the parking gate for us. Eventually a woman appeared at the front desk but seemed preoccupied with talking to her children/family. Not appropriate to have one’s family going behind the reception desk or hanging out at the work place.

Our first room in the upper floor had a tiny window with a broken blind, leaving the room in complete darkness with a strong smell of mold. We told reception and they immediately started sorting out another room, didn’t offer an apology or seemed surprised with the issue. New room had an empty hand soap bottle and broken furniture with a piece of wood hanging. Again we told reception but got no reaction or apology. No hand towel in either room

Our family also stayed in different rooms with similar issues such as missing door knobs, no hand towel, broken AC, toilet needing repeat flushing to clean, low pressure shower and water changing temperature from lukewarm to boiling hot, bedside lights not working, dark and smelly rooms overall. Exterior/river area dirty with rubbish and rat traps. Lobby area had a sticky wooden table, bar/drinks service is currently not being offered. Taken individually, some of these could be dismissed as insignificant but taken together, they paint a picture that the rooms are not maintained to the standard of a 3-star hotel.

We are grateful we stayed one night only and never again at B&B. We are also getting in touch with Atout France in hopes that they can review the star rating so this hotel can stop charging unfair prices to customers.

Strongly recommend to avoid this hotel. Technical problem with check in which took an hour to resolve with queue of about 30 people waiting. They should have a back up procedure when the tech fails. One receptionist left to deal with this on her own. At first was given code for someone else’s room. When got in room sink was v badly blocked - when turned on tap the water spurted up in my face from plug and seemed to have vomit in it. Was moved to a different room but an hour later the electricity went out in it completely and in adjacent room. Moved to a 3rd room which had broken aircon in it. Technician looked at it next day when I saw him nearby but no better. Was like sleeping in a sauna for 2 nights. Even one of the staff said it’s problem after problem in this hotel. No childlock on 3rd floor window. Lift felt like it could break down at any moment. It’s 15 mins walk up very steep steps to cathédrale. Nearest decent restaurants there. 15mins walk uphill to train station. On the plus side there are charging points for all types of plugs in foyer, recycling bins and the foyer has good aircon.
