Hotel Waldlust in Baiersbronn

Superb stay in a quiet location in the Black Forest with a pleasant wellness area

PROS
+ The proximity of the mountains, where superb hikes (of all levels) await you.
+ The exceptional cleanliness of the hotel! Although it has remained in its original state: the annex (containing rooms and wellness area) has been preserved as it was, 1980s?, and has not undergone any renovation.
+ The pleasant wellness area (swimming pool, 5 saunas and lots of loungers) is very warm and the different styles of sauna, particularly those with aromas, invite you to discover.

CONS
- A waitress (in the restaurant during dinner and at the breakfast buffet) always had a sullen face, which was not very welcoming, especially for a service staff member.
- Among the staff, only the manager (who is at reception) speaks a little English and unfortunately the other people only speak German, which I find strange for an establishment so close to France and welcoming foreigners.

Only 2 negative points:
The hotel is not friendly for the disabled traveler. There was little choice for breakfast.
There was little choice of things to eat and the coffee was not that great.
Overall a very nice experience!

We spent a very enjoyable week at the Hotel Waldlust . I booked our stay with the hotel directly as their half board deals were very reasonably priced. On arrival we were upgraded to a room in the Guest House which is much more convenient for the swimming pool and spa area. Our room was a generous size with a small sofa and an outside patio with loungers. Breakfast is served in the guest house, dinner is served in the hotel restaurant a short walk down two sets of steps. The food is excellent, breakfast was a full continental style buffet. Dinner is always 5 courses, small starter, soup, salad buffet, main, desert or cheese board. There were 3 options for the main course, fish, meat or vegetarian, options were selected at breakfast, This is common practice in Austrian and German hotels and does cut down food waste significantly. All the meals were tasty and well presented. The dining room staff were always cheerful and very helpful. The swimming pool is delightful and not very busy. The Black Forest is a superb walking area with plenty of walks for all abilities. We would recommend visiting Baden-Baden for a day out, it’s about an hour away. We would also recommend the local town of Freudenstadt with its superb splash pool complete with fountains and surrounded by cafes. The rooms are a little dated but very clean. The two sets of stairs back up to the Guest House after an excellent dinner were a daily challenge!

A very great hotel! Was here for 3 days for hiking. The rooms are very comfortably furnished and very clean. The breakfast is absolutely sufficient, every day fresh rolls / breads, muesli, spreads, eggs, juices, yogurt etc .. The only thing I missed here was soda. The rooms are in the adjoining building above the economy. Free parking spaces are available. I received a very warm welcome. The wellness area is also great, perfect for relaxing after a long day of hiking. The hotel is a bit out of town and is therefore very quiet. The price-performance ratio is absolutely right here.

Food was very good, breakfast from the buffet was classic. 5-course dinner mega-class! The room was clean, laminate flooring, the balcony was large with a table and chairs. Swimming pool very nice 28 ° C absolutely pleasant for swimming
