Our stay at Traube Tonbach was a mix of extraordinary highlights and unexpected disappointments. The Schwarzwaldstube was truly exceptional. The kitchen delivered an outstanding performance with remarkable precision and creativity, making every course memorable. The sommelier was equally impressive — knowledgeable, intuitive, and easily among the best we’ve encountered. This part of the experience is world‑class and absolutely lives up to its reputation. Unfortunately, the rest of the hotel did not reach the same standard. The rooms, spa, the regular restaurant, and the breakfast offering felt more in line with a 4‑star property, far from the luxury level one would expect at this price point. The staff often came across as disengaged, which further diminished the overall experience. The breakfast was particularly underwhelming: a small buffet, with some items already gone if you arrived later in the morning. The breakfast room itself had the atmosphere of a hostel rather than a luxury hotel. The spa situation was also inconvenient. To use the pool and fitness facilities, you had to cross the street to another building — not ideal, especially in winter.

We had such a wonderful experience at Traube Tonbach. The hospitality and care from the staff were truly exceptional.

During our stay, my husband lost his wedding band, a family heirloom. The hotel found it, kept it safe, and helped us get it back to the USA after we returned home.

I want to especially thank Silke, who went above and beyond for us. The ring had to be shipped multiple times due to complications with U.S. customs, and she stayed patient, thoughtful, and kind throughout the entire process. Thanks to her care, the ring was safely returned to us.

We are deeply grateful and look forward to returning!

What an experience! Super high end, 2 Michelin star restaurants in the hotel. Very family friendly!

Our stay was three days, the staff were friendly and very helpful from the moment we arrived.

The pool and spa areas were superb, and having Black Forest Gateaux with a pot of tea by the pool was not something we expected to be able to do - but very memorable.

The breakfast was epic, it’s plain to see how very proud the chefs are, and this is reflected in the quality and range of breakfast items available.

We had guest e bikes (at no charge) we explored the local forest area, this made the hills very easy to navigate - the bikes were of excellent quality.

A truly beautiful hotel set in a scenic, peaceful place.
Extremely well kept establishment, attended by very friendly and professional staff who attend to all your needs.
We dined at one of their restaurants which is dog friendly. The setting is modern and clean. The food was delicious and the service worthy of a luxurious establishment.
Breakfast was delicious with so much variety of fresh fruits, cooked options etc.
The Spa is a must visit whilst there

What can I say about this hotel, well only very very good things. Parking was a breeze, then met at entrance to explain next steps, up to reception where we were then shown to our room. The food and service have been outstanding, this is a real gem of a hotel in the Black Forest. We visited here specifically to spend my birthday in a top class hotel and were not disappointed at all. The hotel made such a fuss of me on my birthday, which was totally unexpected. If you are planning on visiting the Black Forest then don’t hesitate stay in this hotel.

We (2 adults, 2 teenagers and a 10 year old) spent 7 nights in Hotel Traube Tonbach. We adored it fron the minute we walked into our room and took in the views! It is set in the most picturesque area, you can hear a river flowing while sitting on the balcony and it is so peaceful. The staff are clearly very highly trained; servive is attentive without being overbearing. We felt very well minded at the end of our 7 nights. The kids loved the outdoor pool area, sun loungers are very comfortable and again...the setting!! Breakfast was very good, lots of variety and lovely staff. This was our first trip to the Black Forest, and we shall return to Hotel Traube Tonbach!

We stayed for 3 nights over our (British) summer half term week to celebrate our 10yr wedding anniversary. I had mentioned it in an email many months before when I first started the booking process, I had no idea what would happen - they clearly made a note of the date and on the actual morning, at breakfast, we had flowers and a beautiful hand-written note to say congratulations. It was the most special touch! Or children loved all that was there for the kids and we had an amazing anniversary dinner while they were at the kids club that evening! We had such a lovely time and I can't wait to book again. This kind of generosity and hospitality you can't mark with stars.

Could resist another visit, a few previous ones too. Unbelievable consistency weather summer or winter. We were recognised and greeted by staff we met before. Attentive yet laid back service and staff, as always. We chose the Schatzhauser for dinner, naturally very good indeed. We like the variety there, my wife had a version of coc au vin, cooked to perfection, whilst I had the sour and spicy papaya salad with loin of beef, fantastic. We were also treated by the owner again, such a nice touch. We have booked again for next summer already!
