Gengenbach is a lovely small town only eight minutes on the train from Offenburg. Reichsstadt Hotel and Restaurant is in the middle of town and only a short walk from the station. We booked a three night half board package and really enjoyed our stay. We were allocated a large apartment above their Cocotte restaurant which was very comfortable. It has a hallway, living room, two bedrooms, bathroom and separate toilet. The big bed is very comfortable. Breakfast is excellent and we enjoyed two dinners with nice wine in the Cocotte and another excellent dinner in the hotel’s other restaurant. Both of these restaurants are within the same hotel buildings and only a minute apart. The hospitality and food at this hotel is excellent.

Great location in the centre of Gengenbach. Nice to find a pool and spa facilities in town hotel. The apartment was small but well-equipped. One drawback was the lack of air conditioning which meant opening the windows onto a noisy bar. We did not receive our welcome drinks. The breakfast was very tasty and the garden setting with views of the town was idyllic.

I wish I could give it 10 stars! We had originally planned to visit Gengenbach for a day trip from Strasbourg but after a very disappointing stay in Strasbourg, we checked out of our planned 4 night stay there after 1 night and made a reservation for 2 rooms at the Die Reichsstadt for that same night. We asked (but didn't expect) to have rooms close to each other to be near our children. Carmen made it happen. We were then invited into the beautiful garden for a welcome drink. What a thoughtful touch! The amenities were comprehensive. Laundry service was fast & worth every Euro! Garden & pool areas were beautiful. Breakfast was amazing! Unfortunately, we didn't have time to take advantage of the spa area or available bicycles. There were lots of thoughtful little touches throughout the property, including candy in the lobby, popcorn & at the bar. We could have stayed forever! Thank you Lennart and Carmen for making us feel so welcome!

We made a last minute decision to spend a couple of days in the Black Forrest area. The village is beautiful though not extremely lively. The hotel is centrally located, staff is very friendly, breakfast was excellent with a great variety and we enjoyed the whirlpool and small pool. It was hot outside so we were looking for a room with airconditioning which worked perfectly. Our room (211) was large with nice furniture and a spacious modern bathroom. Most sightseeings are within 30 tot 60 minutes drive so we managed to see a lot of this stunning part of Europe. We had dinner twice in Cocotte with excellent food and service. Breakfast in the garden was a great way to start the day! To park in the village download the app Parkster.

Very comfortable hotel right in the middle of charming Gengenbach. All very fresh and modern and, as often in Germany, expect no sign of antiquity even though you’re in an old building. Our room had a king-size bed, the bathroom was super-modern impressive (though it was a bit odd there wasn’t a door into it - though there was into the separate loo) and the air-con (for which we paid extra) was terrific and necessary - including for the fact that it’s one of those villages in Germany and Austria where the (quite close) church rings its bells throughout the night. There’s a very pleasant garden where they serve meals including breakfast. The breakfast buffet (included in our room price) was very impressive including for the fact that they will make you any egg dish you fancy. The omelettes are excellent. We were able to park right next to the hotel - it’s a bit tight but staff moved around cars as needed. The offer of complimentary drinks on arrival was a nice gesture. We paid €320 a night plus €10 for parking which was pricey. But it was very pleasant and, if your budget stretches to it, recommended. And by the way - do the pleasant, easy walk up to the pilgrimage Bergkapelle overlooking the town. And the Mercyscher Hof next door to the hotel has an attractive beer garden under old plane trees.

Spent five nights here in Sept during a road trip from Scotland to Germany (Mosel valley, Black Forest, Rhine valley). Great stay, right in the centre of Gengenbach (which is beautiful) with a very comfortable, well appointed room with amazing views over the town and to the hills beyond. Very warm welcome from everyone in the team (all very patient when helping us with our limited German). Didn't manage any evening meals in the hotel (or to use the leisure facilities - too busy exploring - Baden-Baden, Freiburg, Gengenbach etc) but breakfast each morning was amazing. Limited (paid) parking outside the hotel with the hotel's underground car park two minutes walk away (took some initial negotiating - see picture - but the staff provided assistance for the 'hard of understanding' 😊). Staff also very helpful when we requested a 'Konus' pass (which entitles visitors to free rail travel throughout the Black Forest area - Gengenbach rail station is a two minute walk from hotel). All-in-all an excellent experience and would definitely stay again.

Good hotel with comfortable rooms (some have terrace, coffee machine, large bathroom). Breakfast buffet is good. We had diner as well in their restaurant and was very nice. Parking place are not easy in the area if you have a bigger car. Some rooms don’t have air conditioning… so can be very warm in the room. Staff is ok but not very friendly… typical Dutch hospitality…

Excellent in all regards, exceeded expectations. Just book it. Quality experience with friendly hosts, quiet rooms and spa facilities. Delicious breakfast. Great location in old town area. We enjoyed our dinner in brasserie next door also run by hotel owners.

Gosh what can I say? My husband and I loved this hotel. It’s old yet new and is superb. We have stayed here before and had returned because we loved it so much. The hotel is even better than it was a few years ago. They now have a small pool and saunas. The beds are super comfortable. The staff are great. The breakfasts excellent and the restaurants attached to the hotel are fantastic. The town of Gengenbach is beautiful. The hikes are beautiful. Eating breakfast outside in a walled garden on a spring morning well it doesn’t get any better. We would return in a heartbeat.
